Shattuck forward Rem Pitlick commits to Gophers

Is this another commitment that could be gone in 2 years.

Gophers need to find 4 year players to be successful. Simply look at the Frozen 4 teams this last season all older teams with experience.

It is the team not the players that win championships...

He is a 4 year player for sure. Size will keep him at the U for all 4 years.

SSM has him listed as just 5'3" 130 lbs. Hopefully he's grown some since those measurements were taken!

So at 5'3" will he ever play college hockey, I would have doubts.

He has plenty of time to grow. He is listed as a 2017 commit. His dad is 6 feet, so there is potential for growth. And really, he only needs to grow 4-6 inches to be effective at the NCAA level with his skillset.

Rau, Cammarata, Guertler, Reilly brothers, Kloos, Pitlick, etc...

Lucia has shifted focus towards players who may not have the prototypical NHL size, but the skillset to excel at the NCAA level. All of these guys are 3-4 year NCAA players. All are highly skilled.

BC has had a fair amount of success following this formula.

Currently their best player is Johnny Gaudreau and he's 5'7". He'll be a junior this season. A few years back it was Nathan Gerbe who was all of 5'6". Yes, such "undersized" players like these are pretty rare, but it can be done and they do tend to stick around for at least three, if not all four years.

A few years back Lucia even made note that he wanted to follow the philosophy of boston college. That is to find all this skilled players around 5'7" to 5'9" knowing they won't jump ship to the NHL right away.

He is either on something or onto something.

All I know is that the Don is going have a pretty exciting team to watch the next few years...he's bringing in a complement of speedy little hard working players mixed with some big NHL bodies...it should be fun. I am personally looking forward to Rau and Cammaratta battling it out for the scoring lead this year. Anyone who doesn't think CAMM is coming in and going to put up big time points is wearing blinders. I got a feeling the spelling of the word MINNESOTA is going to happen at a record pace.

No matter what size of player you bring in, you still have to coach them and develop a team attitude. This is something Lucia has struggled with.

Talking about the premier program in college hockey. I don't feel his teams have a team first attitude and it shows with the numerous NCAA loses to teams with a lot less talent!

St. Cloud was not exactly an older team with experience. 3 seniors and a handful of juniors. Quite a few freshman and sophomores with large roles.

Among his NCAA losses include very talented teams from BC (2x), UMD and UND. Maybe they should have beat Yale, but you can't argue with the roll that squad was on. So we're left with one bad loss to HC. Yeah, numerous.

Actually, the premier program in the country should be fun to watch every year! I really don't care who the coach is, just don't like watching individuals playing a team game.

And you would be the same person to complain if the gophers didn't get a guy like Jordan Schroeder or Kyle okposo who in my opinion have been two of the worst when it comes to stuff like that. Every goal either of them scored guys like you would be the first to complain that we didn't get them. Just like it is now...every Minnesotan that scores against the gophers I hear people say how come the gophers didn't get them.

Your opinion is what I said about individuals and not a team. The coach is responsible for seeing this doesn't happen, and from my observation this hasn't changed.

Actually they tied for the McNaughton cup. I guess you are happy with a league championship instead of a national championship. When they won their last two NCAA championship's they didn't win the WCHA. Seem to always start strong and tail off at the end of the season. Just curious to hear your view on this.

I am just saying you need to calm down. Of course a national championship is better, but it still says something to tie for the conf lead in a conference that is considered to be the strongest.

For those that really know hockey they understand that there is so much parity in college hockey right now. I wouldn't consider us the premier program in the country. One of the best sure, but not premier. Heck, mariucci just turned 20 years old. Look at the arenas others have to offer these days to their recruits. You think you are frustrated with the gophers...go ask a wolverine fan how they feel right now.

Hockey shows that any team has a chance to win on any given night. Last year people were ripping the gophers for losing to Yale in OT. Then they beat North Dakota really bad their next game. And yes North Dakota would be one of the top ten "premier" programs in the country too.

I think the next coach at the u of m will be guentzel in about 2-4 years.

Rem is a great player and will be a force with the Gophers and beyond.
