Hi Ken. The MSHSL has no jurisdiction over video or streaming of regular-season games. So feel free.

Hi John.

My name is Ken Niven, and I video games for our boys HS team. I have a question.

Would there be anything wrong with me streaming our 2 scrimmages online tomorrow night in Grand Rapids? I am video taping them for our coaches, but I also want to stream them online at highschoolcube.com.

Sorry was having a hard time posting with my phone. Home now.

H-M 5 GR 0 H-M used 3 goalies. Iilgen, Wentland and not sure who third goalie was. Shepard for GR. Although GR used some different players in the second half.

HM controlled the first session. They are far ahead of Rapids at this point in the season. Rapids rarely controlled the puck in the HM end when they finally did get into the zone. Typical HM team, very good and a threat to win it all. Although they are not very big, they are so strong on their skates that rarely was Rapids able to body them off the puck. Rapids showed some potential so hopefully they will be competitive by the end of the season.

What's the story with all the low scoring in Blaine? Short scrimmages or just good consistent goaltending?

45minute running time scrimmages. No power plays...refs would blow whistles on penalties, but kid just sent to the bench. Some of the better forwards either didn't play or saw limited action. I saw some great goalie saves, but nothing that far out of the ordinary.

If you look at the schedule, you see that many of the teams played back-to-back, and had 3 scrimmages within three or three and half hours. There were a lot of tired legs and few odd-man rushes (especially as day went on).

Finally, all of the coaches were mixing up line combinations, so not much chemistry within lines. The fact that the JV teams were playing in the same location made it even easier for coaches to shuttle bubble kids up/down and mix/match (last year, these varsity teams scrimmaged at EP, while the JV's were at Prior Lake).

Over all, about what you expect for first weekend scrimmages. I wouldn't put much faith in the level of play and the reported "scores" as being good predictors of the different teams' success this season.
