Poll / Section 8AA Up For Grabs ?? Top 2 and then the rest

Post by bsubeaver94 » Tue Nov 05, 2013 7:03 pm

8AA like many sections has been hit hard by early departures. Sauer from Bemidji being one of the latest.. To me this looks like a two horse race between Roseau and Brainerd. Too bad EGF isnt in AA.. Roseau returns 5 of 6 top scorers and a pretty decent G. Brainerd returns top 5 scorers but not of the calliber of Yon and Strand.. Moorhead lost a ton of O with the Uglems and Herdt departing but will be OK on D and in nets.. Bemidji, not so much. They had only 2 players last year with more than 10pts and they both left.. Any dark horses out there from the rest of the section?

Roseau should win this section. Brainerd will be very tough however. This is a matchup where the Roseau coach MUST get creative with his studs or they very we'll could get beat again.

Would love to see either Roseau or Brainerd. Maybe Brainerd for someone new, plus I have a bunch of family in Brainerd and who doesn't love the Shady Bunch?

Who's the designated driver for those guys this year? Are they taking applications?

Bemidji's best player missed most of last season due to an early season injury, but is back and as strong as ever.
Matt Serratore was the best player last season but has graduated.
Sauer loss, while disappointing, is not the issue for Bemidji.
Youth - inexperience is the problem.
Juniors Jake Leitner and Mike Forseth are very good players.
Defensively they will be strong with Bruestle, Neubeck, Fitzgerald and Forseth back and Nick Leitner up form the bantam team and Matt Larson up from the JV team.
Goaltending will be strong with last year's starter Heifort and both backups back.
Offense will be the biggest issue. Leitner should score 20 - 30 goals, some kids up from bantams are also goal scorers. Hopefully some of the sophs and jrs from last year's team will be mpore productive this year.

I've heard nothing but good things about Leitner this year. Bemidji has always seemed to lack that guy who can put the puck in the net on a regular basis. A few years ago it seemed Sauer was going to be that player but it never really panned out. If they can get any type of scoring depth they're going to be a good team this year.
