Class A Final: (2) Hermantown vs (1) East Grand Forks

Post by HSH1212 » Fri Mar 07, 2014 4:24 pm

Plante finally gets a final against a public school. In fact, the last time a private school wasn't in the Class A Final was 2003. Who wins?

I think this is going to be an old fashioned fist-fight... Hermantown in OT.

I'm a Hermantown guy and want to be optimistic, but EGF has the more skilled team and deserves their #1 seed and role as favorite. That said, the only game I saw EGF play live this season was one of their losses. Yep, it was 2 months ago and is a small sample, but they did not match up well against the speed of Notre Dame (WI) in the Marshall Holiday tourney. Htown has very nice team speed and a high compete level so this should be entertaining! Prediction 3-2 Htown. At worst, a team from "Greater Minnesota" (we don't like "outstate") will bring home the hardware.

Hermantown vs East Grand Forks

Post by DekeDangler » Fri Mar 07, 2014 6:45 pm

Yep, it's been a while and got curious what the buzz has been. I see the boys from egf have been doing well. I think this game is going to be decided by the most disciplined team. Which team is most likely to make the silly passes, be out of position because they're running the puck, take stupid penalties and try to be the lone hero? Can coaches reign in these players who have been allowed to run free on the ice?

East Grand 3 - Hermantown 1
Plante can whine about losing once again. Hermantown is perennial runner ups.

Sit back and enjoy it, whoever wins.

EGF 3-2. That said both should opt up and play AA like STA did.

I agree with Sats81 , I don't know about EGF for sure but where is the uproar concerning Hermantown, 5 straight in the final and they are still claiming poor little me?

Egf has no business being in aa, and anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing of the program.

Who on the Herm team is recruited? Name them. As far as i know there is only one that didn't play youth hockey there and his family moved to Hermantown from Hibbing. And if you are saying they recruit now or have in past years name some names of players that didn't play youth hockey there. The HS does not allow open enrollment and hasn't for years so you have to live there so Good luck!

These teams have played seven times since 2000. Hermantown is 7-0 in those games.

Looking forward to this game. Inevitably I 'root' for someone even with no stake in the game itself. I'm a bit torn here. I feel for Hermantown the last few years losing to a school that should not have been in the single A tourney.

With that said I think Hermantown has outgrown single A themselves.

I'll try to sit back, relax, and watch a great championship game. So nice not to see Breck or STA playing in the title game
The City of Hill Murray is beautiful this time of year

EGF is getting screwed on penalties.
Is there a homer ref in there?

Honestly, it could be anybody in the state playing against Hermantown today and I would root for them. I want to hear Plante's argument that public schools are overpowered and open enrollment needs to be removed.

Also, if EGF wins the way this game is playing out, it'll show they can beat Hermantown with 4 men on the ice.

My brother just texted me the same thing. Some of the calls seem a little touchy... Hopefully it balances out.
