Bemidji at East Grand Forks Thursday

Post by 12thgraders » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:43 pm

Rematch in East Grand Forks! EGF had the lead through 2 in early December in Bemidji only to cough up two goals in the third with some feisty play and that turned into a 2-1 Bemidji win. EGF has had a decent run since only stumbling to Hermantown. Of course Bemidji is on a 14 game winning streak and wants make it 15 when they have their own appointment with Hermantown on Saturday in Bemidji.

Who do you have and why?

Bemidji will be down a couple of players, but they still have 3 strong, fast lines that are still hungry for another win.
But their strength is 5 two way Dmen and a goalie that is very athletic with great vision.

Playing in EGF is tough and they want a bit of revenge and it is a rivalry from youth hockey.

One goal game either way but I MUST take the Jacks, 3 to 2.

Green Wave win

Post by TTpuckster » Wed Jan 14, 2015 3:06 pm

The Green Wave concern coming in to this game is the loss of their #1 goalie.

However, the #2 goalie has now started the last 2 games agains Grand Forks central and Roseau and is 2 - 0 while allowing 2 goals total in those games.

I predict a 5 - 2 win for the Green Wave with the last goal being an EN'er.

Plus, as Elliot pointed out, they will have some home cookin' going this time. Refs will be all ex Green wave players with a chip on their shoulders when it comes to the Lumberjacks.
Too bad Elliot, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, (Bruce in Bruce almighty)

No way they can score 4 goals from their own D zone.

I will give you the empty netter.
By your accounting then
Bemidji 2 EGF 1.

Although I don't think EGF can get it to running time to start the 3rd period like Grand Rapids did at Bemidji (Hi Elliott), Bemidji will suffer their second significant loss of the season. 5-2 is my prediction. Don't fret tree line dwellers, you should still make it to the Excel Center in March.

Its been a nice run for Bemidji, but I think the injury to their #1 goalie actually helps them. I think they are the best team in 8AA, and glad that EGF is 8A. EGF now has to focus and play a team game. I suspect that they have lost focus from time to time this season. I think, EGF will rebound and handle a very good Bemidji team. I too agree they will both be at the X in March.

It's going to be a good game.
Question, does EGF have any players that were not on their bantam team from 3 years ago.

Bantams

Post by ted2you » Wed Jan 14, 2015 7:36 pm

Your not going to let it go are you? So, I'll bite, when does a program cross the line? Jobs in window plants, or at Polaris? I don't live there and I couldn't tell you who is on the roster, And I am aware that you have tried EGF in abstentia and convicted them. I know last season there as a particular D'man who weighed about 168 pounds soaking wet who is accused of playing for Crookston before he arriving at EGF. I get tired of the accusations (in jest or serious) Who are you accusing the scoundrels that "wetbacked" across the river and joined the evil empire? EGF is an interesting location because (no disrespect to North Dakota) if you have a child who has significant talent would you rather them play and get the exposure in ND or MN? Before you answer realize, ND has no state tax and is awash in oil money.

Ok, Dixon Bowen's father grew up in EGF and played there, Tanner Tweten's grandfather was the town's lawyer and his father has owned a business in EGF his entire adult life? Are we suggesting these are players who should be questioned? SERIOUSLY?

I thought Bowen played bantams in EGF??

Not condemning them at all.

Kids come and go in programs all the time. Just curious as I follow bantam programs in NW MN for more than one reason

Tweeten is a name I did not recall, and as stated, just curious as to where he was from, thinking the west side, possibly.

I'll take Bemidji in this one so Hermantown can end their 15 game winning streak on Saturday.

Unless Hermantown brings the Peterson kid up from bantams, they ain't got a chance!

Don't know the Peterson kid but as far as I know Plante has never brought any bantam kids up to play varsity. Just doesn't do it so I guess Herm loses.

Good luck against EGF!

When was bemidji's last win against Hermantown? Maybe its there turn but I think Bemidji will have to wait a few years.

No, unless you count the players that were on the Bantam B that went to state that year too.

Overall, Varsity and JV, I can only think of two varsity and two JV players on the roster that have not skated in EGF since they were Mighty Mites and both varsity kids came in as first year squirts and the JV players came in as a Pee Wee and a Mite.

Cheating

Post by ted2you » Wed Jan 14, 2015 10:45 pm

No disrespect to any member, but I am bothered by accusations of violations of a code of ethics. We all know that there is a difference between what is legal and what is right. If EGF has actively engaged in benefitting from tampering with players I believe it is fair game. But floating a name out there because someone doesn't remember seeing them. In the case of Tweten, he is a life long resident of EGF as has his family for multiple generations. If you look at the film on Tweten, you see he is a pretty dang good hockey player and If someone wants to know about the status they should feel free to ask. The problem I have is that once someone throws it out, others read it and often assume it must be true, after-all, we all know that if its on the internet it must be true. Programs, players, and families deserve better.

My response to Elliot's question was based on the EGF bantam team. In 2011/2012 season, when bantams was only one class, EGF went all the way to the championship game at state before losing to Edina. I was just stating that Bowen and Tweeten were not on that team. They were already playing for the high school. No intent to talk about where they came from, but since I am orginally from EGF, I can tell you that they both grew up there, from the time they were little itty babies to the hockey players they are now.
And I do remember all of the "talk" last year.
You may or may not have noticed some of the EGF banners during the section tournament last year stating: "EGF; the Home Grown" team. I believe that was at least partly because of the discussion on this bored.
Probably just to irk Warroad.
I don't think it worked because the section championship game could have went either way.

I believe Elliot was asking because this EGF group and the Bemidji group have had quite a rivalry with each other all the way through youth teams to now. Correct me if I'm wrong Elliot, but you were just trying to compare from Bantams to now.

So Ted, as the song said: Lighten up, while you still can, do even try to understand. Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy....

Tweten was on that bantam team...he was only an 8th grader at the time. Bowen was a freshman, and was on varsity.
