Hill Murray vs Mahtomedi

Post by nosoupforyou » Sat Jan 24, 2015 10:48 pm

Mahtomedi 4
Hill Murray 0

Most likely only the Mahtomedi players and their parents expected this result. Mahtomedi surging since the debacle at St Thomas Academy two weeks ago.

Slight edge to Hill in the first period, but they dominated the second period while the Zephyrs leaned heavily on goalie Will Swanson to preserve lead.

In the third period Hill played like Lechner coached - chippy and complaining tothe officials all period long. Mahtomedi clogged the passing lanes while never giving a quality scoring chance the entire period. Expected Hill to come out flying in the third, but nothing ever materialized. St Croix Arena was hoppin' with the Stillwater and Woodbury fans cheering the Mahtomedi win.

Arguably the best win by a Class A team over a Class AA team this year.

How many if the suspended Hill players did not play? How many are out?

Seiler, Zarembenski, Ranallo, Yeo, Baumann, Nowak, Z Mills, Ryan, Olson, Staum, Bremer, Wittl and Reifenberger all played among others.

No Anderson, but I believe he is injured and not associated with any suspensions.

Well it was to most everyone else, including Karl who this week had H-M ranked 4th but did not even mention Mahtomedi as a bubble team. Nor are they ranked in LPH's most recent Top 20. I suspect they just might this coming week.

Check the single A rankings.... You will probably find them around 3-5 in any of them

Mahtomedi got smashed 8-1 by STAA.

This is a surprising result.

You are right, my error. But the result still surprised me...

Not a shocking result. The first game between was 1-1 late in the third before Hill exploded for four goals in three minutes. Mantomedi is an excellent team and Hill is a team whose goal scoring and goaltending are both inconsistent.

That game was 1-0 after 1 and STA won the 3rd period 2-1. This HM result was definitely surprising, but they hung with both STA and HM for most of the game in the first meetings. They simply seemed to accept defeated after the 2nd goal was scored in the STA game and came back to the 3rd with some fire.

As was pointed out, with the exception of 2 minutes and 40 seconds where Hill scored 4 unanswered goals, Mahtomedi played Hill very close. It was 0-0 after 1, Mahtomedi scored first in the 2nd and it was 1-1 after 2 and they held off Hill for almost the first 10 minutes of the 3rd.

I wouldn't expect the second meeting with STA to be as bad.

One player was dismissed from the team. All others had a one game suspension against Tartan and have been playing since. Anderson is out with an injury and Brock Bremer took a shot in the ankle in the first period and missed the rest of the game.
