Line brawl with 40 seconds to go.

HM goaltender should absolutely be tossed.

2-1 Final. Bears suffered from the battle royal that cost them giller and welch on the ice.

Would be surprised if HM goalie doesn't get a suspension of some kind.

Overall, about even in 5v5, with perhaps with WBL having the edge.

Special teams definitely dominated by Hill. Killed a 5on3, and got a PP goal.

the all time series is 55-23-2 in favor of Hill Murray, if my math is right.

Obviously lopsided. But I don't think that diminishes the importance of the game, especially to WBL alums and players. Things that continue to fuel the rivalry are games like tonight. Close, could have gone either way, and if you put Davis Z in a WBL jersey tonight, I think WBL is the victor.

Maybe Hill doesn't think of it as a rivalry in the same sense that WBL does.

Does WBL have 5-6 more wins over the past ten years with another coach? Maybe, if its the right guy. My problem with Sager has always been he doesn't get great teams to elevate to the next level the same way he seems to be able to get mediocre teams to play better than maybe their talent pool is.

Very entertaining game for the most part. I liked how WBL started the game, but couldn't get that early lead with some good scoring chances. They were really pressuring early on, but the special teams ended up being the deciding factor in the end. That shorthanded goal really changed the momentum, and that 5 on 3 kill deflated the Bears in the 2nd.

Being down 2-0 after a lackluster 2nd had me thinking this one might be over, but I was very impressed by the Bears effort in the 3rd period. They really controlled the play, and really had Hill Murray on their heels in the last 5 minutes. The Pioneers were icing almost any chance they got, but they just couldn't get that tying goal in the end.. I really hope we all get a chance to see a rematch in a month. I'd love the see WBL get another crack at that team. I don't think they can expect another 37 save effort from with only one finding the back on the net. He turned away a lot of good looks, and I'd give WBL as good a chance as any to represent section 4AA!

The Hub is showing Begley as Hill's starting goalie. What gives, isn't Wendlant their guy? Sounds like it was a great game, and some icing on the cake with 2015's Royal Rumble, which it sounds like Jake Begley was the winner of, and will go on to face the champion at Wrestlemania. Wish I could have been two places at once tonight.

I couldn't agree more. 3000 crammed into Aldrich on Feb.27th for the rematch with State at stake will be great fun.

Indeed sir. I respect Lechner and his staff as much as anyone. Hopefully we get another great game in a month with a trip to state on the line!

This is WBL's best team in a few years, and Hill Murray doesn't quite have the scoring depth that we've all become accustom to seeing. No offense to Stillwater, but please don't ruin this for me this year :)

AGREE. Stay home, & stay out of it, Stillwater. My Little Ponies are for girls. Way to ruin State for the section last year. How embarrassing.

Oh, yeah. Good point. Well Bears you stay out of it too, then. Don't try to win just make the section bracket/final fun for the rest of us Pioneer fans who are actually interested in doing some damage downtown St. Paul.

I don't recall WBL getting beat by 6 goals at state. They're usually blowing 3rd period leads, or ending up on the short end in OT.

Seems like Hill's rivalry is w/St Thomas. 19 -1 ?? I would have never guessed that.

Pretty sure they split the last three years. With a tie in the schwans thrown in. I think they will split this year also.

Sounds like the same kind of rivalry that the Vikings have with the Packers.

Just love all of the negative encouragement for the Ponies, and for H-M's section opponents. I suppose we should just bin the section tournaments and use karl's rankings to determine who goes to State? That said, it's really rare to see more than one huge section final upset each year, so if the choice is between seeing the 4AA favorite go down or keeping the Cadets out of the AA Tourney for another year.....stay home, Ponies!

HM is 13-6-1 vs STA during those same 10 years but it is 3-2-1 during the last 3 yrs with another meeting Saturday.

Bill Lechner may have lost confidence in Wendlendt. He was really good vs STA on Hockey Day but not so much in big games losses at Edina and Mahtomedi. Begley is certainly the goalie of the future. He will use both the rest of the way and go with who he thinks is hotter for the playoffs. Today that is Begley.

One of the best contests of the season. Stream coverage was steady with Horn usual excellent and enthusiastic play by play and commentary.

Will be curious to see the shot breakdown for the Bears 37 shots. Impression along the way, right or wrong, is that the Bears top shooters hit Begley front and center quite a bit, even with time for good looks. The big boys got to hit back of net next time.

As far as Wendlandt, his save percent is respectable .908 and you can hardly argue with his success on balance this year. But early in the season on the 2014-15 goalie thread, there were some that said W might struggle periodically and we would see Begley off and on during the year, if for nothing else than to start building his experience. But, what a way to start!
