Both have been picked. Section reps wait till after state tourney to annnounce them so there isn't any distractions. They should be coming out this week.

The U18 program invites players to play on one of 4 teams that participate in a spring "festival," where each team plays the other three. Twenty players from these four teams will be selected to play for the Minnesota U18 team that goes on to play in the CCM NIT.

So yeah, there are supposedly tryouts, but the usual "spring festival" selection criteria apply. As do the participation fees.

No tryouts. Coaches nominate players and the coaches vote on those players.

From the minnesota hockey website:
Spring Festival Weekend: Four teams are formed by combining the high school sections (Sections 1 & 3, Sections 2 & 6, Sections 4 & 7, Sections 5 & 8). Each coach has the ability to nominate players, and the Festival coaches select the players that will participate.

Each team is provided up to two hours of practice ice time and will participate in three games at the HP 18 Spring Festival. Players will be evaluated at the Spring Festival and 20 will be selected to play in the CCM Minnesota High School Hockey National Invitational Tournament.

Dates: March 27 – 29, 2015 at Wakota Arena

Don't go and get all funny and such now..:) Your dealing with MN Hockey

There is always a fee. Last year it was $175.00 or something per player..

What's the beef about a fee? Who else should pay if not the the users (skaters)? This isn't taxpayer funded pro sports.

The traditional beef about the fees is that you never know how much of the fee is going towards ice time/jerseys, and how much is being spent on things like those really nice black Reebok warm-ups. There's also strong suspicions that there are kids who are locks to advance to the next level (regardless of how they look during "tryouts"), making the odds that your kid will advance to the next stage that much slimmer.

Do a search back through the years in this forum...there's always a couple of threads on this topic at this time of the year.

What seniors should be on the Section 7 team? I can't think of a whole lot of seniors.

Hey, another great first 2 posts by an apparent disgruntled parent, Nwminnguy. Just to clarify:

#1 - festival coaches do not determine the teams. Each HS head coach in each of the 8 sections votes for players to represent their sections for HP18 and G8

#2 - not all "top" players will attend for various reasons including: Spring Break, Spring sports, they don't want to, they don't need to because they have a post hs plan in place; etc.

Any other items you need clarification on Nwminnguy?

This is the complete statement from the site.

Ted Brill Great 8: Seniors from Class A and Class AA teams in each section are selected by the coaches. Each coach has the ability to nominate players, and a vote is held to determine the 17 player roster made up of two goalies, six defensemen and nine forwards. The teams compete in a weekend tournament with all of the players being evaluated for potential participation in the CCM Minnesota High School Hockey National Invitational Tournament.

From the brochure online: Coaches nominate their players and all coaches in the section vote.

Players competing from H-M
Zach Mills
Tyler Nowak
Jacob Olson
Davis Zarembinski chose to not play. Sean Wendlandt was voted as an alternate.
Pioneers 1983, 1991 and 2008 State Champions

Just confused how an all section team kid with three times as many points is snubbed for an average player at best.
No politics?????

Maybe your son shouldn't have turned down the offer.

All-Conference or All-Section? Those are two different things.

So he did not get all conference? Maybe that is why the coaches did not put him in. Did you ask his own coach if he nominated your son?
