Only upset I see may be Crookston over TRF.
But other than Section 7, this is the LOCK section for EGF.

First take is how few wins the teams have this year across the board.
Second take is it looks crazy to have a 5 win team as the #3 and a 15 win team at #5 or #6. This section plays such a range of opponents though and is made up of teams from three different conferences.
I agree with a theme from another thread, just do away with conferences and play within section teams. Once you have taken care of section commitments, then you can schedule outside of section. In this section, play everybody once for standings, play those you want to twice for non-section, then play AA, out of section A, or out of state.

Yup, Northern Lakes will probably end up with 5 6 7 losses but still to have 16 17 18 wins and be a 6 seed.air force one wrote:First take is how few wins the teams have this year across the board.

Some adjustment should be done by the MSHSL.
And this is not the only section like this.

Yeah, TRF could lose to either Crookston or Warroad if their goalie has an off night.elliott70 wrote:1 East Grand Forks 9-4-2

I think the situation will take care of itself in the coming years (ten/twenty). I see a lot of these small, small programs ceasing to exist due to costs/lack of interest, with cost being the larger of the two.air force one wrote:First take is how few wins the teams have this year across the board.

And I think that will happen elsewhere in the state too.
This age of "discretionary" income is fast coming to an end with the tail end of the baby boomers, not only personal but school district-wise too.

You make a good case. What may hurt them, is only playing Warroad once. Even if they beat them, TRF has beat Warroad twice.air force one wrote:LotW exposed Northern Lakes on Saturday, could the Bears make the leap over TRF? They have a Valentines matchup with Warroad but no TRF game this season, the Warroad matchup should be huge. Was that 2-1 loss by the Bears to EGF telling?
But maybe they'll make some noise at Sections.
Here's hoping; that would be a nice change !

Pagestat has it in this order. Regardless of how Section 8A is constructed, I think it is crazy that an 18 win team will be hosting a play-in game and an 8 win team will probably be the #2 seed. Warroad could fall a little and Crookston can move up with some wins.

True, and it's not like TRF has a brutal schedule themselves.air force one wrote:Pagestat has it in this order. Last night that matters in this section. Will EGF come through clean in section play?
Lake of the Woods has been exposed by Crookston and Ely and play Warroad tonight
Northern Lakes has dropped 3 of their last 4 to Lake of the Woods, Little Falls and Detroit Lakes after going 18-1-1 in their first 20.
Looks like despite the likes of Warroad and TRF having less than 10 win seasons, they will be back in the #2 and #3 seeds. Did Crookston do enough to be #4 or will Detroit Lakes sneak in there?

9. BAGLEY

11. RED LAKE FALLS
Playin Round (High Seed)
Park Rapids over Bagley
Northern Lakes over Kittson
Detroit Lakes over RLF
Quarterfinal Round (High Seed)
EGF over Park Rapids
Crookston over Lake of the Woods
TRF over Detroit Lakes
Warroad over Northern Lakes
Semifinal Round in TRF
EGF over Crookston
TRF over Warroad in a coinflip game
EGF goes back to St Paul
I hope the coaches seed 2-11 completely different than what I have here. Crookston or Lake of the Woods (the #4 and #5 teams) have the best chance to pull a Cinderella and steal a trip to state. If either can put together two great games, upset EGF and pick off the survivor of the Warroad/TRF Semifinal they can play Hermantown, Breck, or St Paul Academy the following Wednesday.

I'll stick with Breck. They are the tested team, have the big game experience to shut down the Delano line and advance.elliott70 wrote:Is it Breck or is it Delano?air force one wrote: If either can put together two great games, upset EGF and pick off the survivor of the Warroad/TRF Semifinal they can play Hermantown, Breck, or St Paul Academy the following Wednesday.

Assuming TRF/Warroad meet in the semis, I'm picking Warroad. They've outplayed TRF in both games.air force one wrote:Last night that matters in this section. Will EGF come through clean in section play?

In light of the seeding release, my updated forecast. I still think the 4/5 winner has a chance to steal the section, especially after TRF upset EGF last night in TRF. The Warroad/TRF matchup is still pretty close to me, comes down to goaltending.
Play-in Round (High Seed)
Park Rapids over Bagley-Fosston
Northern Lakes over RLF
LotW over KCC
Quaterfinals (High Seed)
EGF over Park Rapids
Detroit Lakes over Crookston
Warroad over LotW
TRF over Northern Lakes
Semi Finals (TRF)
EGF over Detroit Lakes
Warroad over TRF
Final (TRF)
EGF over Warroad
Play-in Round (High Seed)
Park Rapids over Bagley-Fosston
Northern Lakes over RLF
LotW over KCC
Quaterfinals (High Seed)
EGF over Park Rapids
Detroit Lakes over Crookston
Warroad over LotW
TRF over Northern Lakes
Semi Finals (TRF)
EGF over Detroit Lakes
Warroad over TRF
Final (TRF)
EGF over Warroad
