Of course a HF fan would whine about EP's one game. I'm on pins and needles waiting to see that tough schedule HF has this year.

STMA is one of the up and coming sports programs in the state. Football is doing well. Not a team to take lightly.

Milwaukee is competing in the open division?? Wow they've already won it...Casey Roepke is a beast. They should replace STMA in the gold division.

True - actually flip flop Mpls and USM now that Hale is gone.

I am also curious where this information can be found. Part of my curiosity surrounds Blake. That team won the bronze division last year, which I believe automatically qualifies it for the silver. But I don't see its name listed (though Breck is). It is possible Blake has chosen not to play, but given its inclusion in 6AA, it would be interesting to see how it would do against Cretin and St. Louis Park.

I believe they play both teams during the regular season. I know for sure that they play CDH.

I have updated the times above. Someone gave me a copy of the schedule. Don't see it listed on the Schwan site yet.

Is there a correlation between how good a hockey team and how good a football team is?

For the metro schools, there seems to be evidence. In Class 6A football, EP, Minnetonka, Edina, STMA, Lakeville North are the top 5 teams, and among the top 20 in hockey. Elk River top team in Class 5A football. Is it always the case? No.

Surely that has nothing to do with enrollment numbers and everything to do with football.

I would guess that there was more of a correlation back when two or three sport athletes was more common. I'm not saying it never happens now, just not as often. IMHO

Correct. Very few AA Hockey players play Football. Not many Hockey players in General play Football anymore, but especially in those big schools. Sadly, very few even play a second sport anymore.

Not sure how they come up with the pairings but the Gold division essentially has the championship game in the 1st round between Edina and Minnetonka. You would think the pairings would be made after the start of the season so you can get the right balance. Granted all the teams in the Gold division have been powerhouses at some point in the past, but some of the teams are down this year. Subsequently, STA clearly has the easiest path to the final game, which is no different than to the State tourney. But then again I'm sure they will get out coached.

Talk about no respect for the WIAA. The two Wisconsin teams should absolutely rip through their respective brackets.
