No real surprises. When Alex beat Sartell in OT last week and the different mathematical rankings that are out there didn't move either one much, I didn't think there would be much of a chance of flipping any of the seeds.Mite-dad wrote:Seeding is out:

I gotta call BS on the home ice advantage thing for SCC. This is the fastest team in the section, and the slower ice sheet will play a bigger advantage to the slower teams. Honestly, I think from a location standpoint, SCC would be more advantaged to playing this thing in some of the colder barns with faster ice, such as Prairie Center, Sauk Rapids, or Little Falls. SCC doesn't even have their own locker room at the MAC, so there isn't an advantage in that. Travel is minimal for all the teams.Mite-dad wrote:It's a tall order. SCC gets to play on their home ice besides the other advantages they have. I think Alex has the best chance to pull an upset.
To your other point about other advantages. I'm guessing that is a private school argument. I concede your point there, there are obvious advantages there. But home ice advantage? Again, I don't buy it. Until St. John's builds their own barn with a capacity in the 1300-2000 range, the MAC is where this section tourney should be...that said, I don't necessarily think SCC should belongs in this section.
Cathedral had like 200 fans at the game last night, so it's not like a fan advantage. It could be played in Alex. Semi-finals a few years back in Alex had a much better hockey atmosphere than it does at the sterile MAC. One of my least favorite rinks in the state.BobSaget wrote:I gotta call BS on the home ice advantage thing for SCC. SCC will be faster on slow ice also, plus, yes, they will be more comfortable on the ice they use all year. Agree to disagree on this one. That said, I don't think this SCC team is as fast as the last couple years. Alex should hang with them I think. Should be a good game.BobSaget wrote:I gotta call BS on the home ice advantage thing for SCC. Fair enough, mite-dad! Always respect your opinion, even if I disagree. To clarify, I think the existing rotation between Alexandria and the MAC makes sense.Mite-dad wrote:SCC will be faster on slow ice also, plus, yes, they will be more comfortable on the ice they use all year. Alexandria will give Cathedral a better game than the first go around when they were missing their top player. I think both teams are better now than they were in that game. Hoping for an entertaining game. Whoever wins will represent the section well in St. Paul.
Should be at a neutral site, never have a home team for championship it's not fair. Played in the Mac while I was in highschool for two years and it had the worst atmosphere. The year of 2014-2015 it was in Alexandria and that rink was honestly too small for it, they had to put extra bleachers up in the corners. However it was a great atmosphere to play in even though we lost in double overtime to cathedral. Coming from Fergus Falls, I am cheering for Alexandria. Up 2-0 already. Down with the private schools!Mite-dad wrote:SCC will be faster on slow ice also, plus, yes, they will be more comfortable on the ice they use all year. Agree to disagree on this one.
