Section 4AA Final: Hill-Murray vs. White Bear Lake

Post by ZachHalverson » Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:46 am

For the first time in a half decade, the Bears and Pioneers will meet in the Section 4AA Final.

What was once a near every season affair has become rare, and it's truly a treat to see Hill-Murray and White Bear.

I'm gonna shock y'all and say I want White Bear Lake to win. Though I'm just happy to see #TheRivalry renewed for the first time since my senior year of high school.

Empty netters are rare in OT games.

Not one of these posts says anything about OT.

And I'm guessing you have a Hill Murray education.

Perhaps irony is lost on the publicly educated. On the other hand, we have yet more evidence of your genius.

Hypothetical question. What if a delayed penalty is called and the team pulls their goalie and accidentally puts the puck in their own goal . Is the goal good?

I remember it happening to the Vancouver Canucks a few years ago.

I heard, probably not to anybodies surprise, that they sold out of the 1,400 tickets at Aldrich today. Who is excited? Anybody have some all-time stats to post? Remember when they used to do this at the Hippodrome?

HM - WBL

Post by stpaul » Thu Mar 01, 2018 11:05 pm

There haven't been as many HM-WBL Section Finals as you might think. 14 to be exact. Some of their great Section games over the years were in the Semi-finals. They didn't play in a Final until 1985. HM is 10-4. HM was also 3-0 in Section Finals vs. WB Mariner between 1975 and 1980. Looking forward to tomorrow night. The rivalry is back.

the last time I remember that WBL faced HM at the Colliseum WBL played a defensive game against a heavily favored HM. WBL dumped the puck in when they had possession and if they didn't win the puck they dropped and set up a 3 man picket fence on their blue line forcing HM to dump and chase. WBL would send their best player, a center, I forget his name, to retrieve the puck and start the breakout. The game went to overtime and WBL won. In the celebration a WBL stick got launched about 50 feet in the air.

1400??? Why are they selling less than half of the capacity?

It seems like I did many years ago but can't remember for sure. I have seen teams come close to it a few times. It always gets the announcer fired up.

Saw it in a coon rapids game a couple years ago. The game ended 1-0. Forget who they were playing...

My info says each school got 1,000 tickets to sell on their respective campuses. The arena kept 1,400 to pre-sell at the box office.

Even with a ticket the waiting line to get in the arena can wrap around the building. Anyone know when the doors open?

Guarantee WBL will be holding their sticks a little tight to start tonight. First time in a while they’ve come into this game as heavy favorites with a chance to do real damage at state. With so much riding on this one I expect they come out flat. Hope they win, but I’m worried.

It's been true in the past. The higher seed is only 6-8 in the 14 HM-WBL Section Final games since the first one in 1985. White Bear has never won a Section Final vs. Hill-Murray as a #1 seed. They are 0-4 in these games - 1985, 1991, 2000 and 2002. WBL's 4 Section Final wins vs. HM were all as the #2 seed.

A big however is that WBL has 22 wins this year and HM has 12. WBL should win tonight.

Why does the MSHSL let Hill play this game at home????? Just for that i am appalled. Should be at the New Tria or Ridder.

Got a bad feeling about this one for the Bears, hope I'm wrong though.

I'll be there.
