Thanks for posting. They certainly have a more challenging slate for next season. It finishes pretty slow though, as they won't be tested much in the final month if they are as good as I think they'll be.

I've flagged some interesting contests. Blake could be one of the most exciting teams to watch. Cloquet appears to be a contender for state. Sartell smoked Chaska this season.

That's a good analysis. Definitely ramping up their schedule. A few 2AA section implications in a row between Tonka, EP, and PL around Christmas time.

Looks like the end of the season is Metro West conference time, which it seems will be pretty weak besides BSM and Chaska. The Centennial game could be okay, though they did graduate a good amount of seniors. Solid Bantam AA team this year.

Edina, EP, and St. Thomas have left Schwans Cup for Hockey for Life Classic and Minnetonka has left Schwans Cup for tournament at St. Louis Park.

Does anyone have the SLP tourney lineup, how about Schwans?

I believe they are keeping the gold division to 4 teams. Didn’t feel any of the silver or below teams would fit.

Here is the 2018-19 Breck schedule. I do not know details about the tournament matchups yet. Traditionally Breck has been in the silver division of the Schwan Cup, but dropping down to bronze may be in the cards. Also, both Blake games are listed as being on the road, which obviously is an error.

I knew that the difficulty level would be dialed down a notch after last year's rough regular season, but seeing such major changes is a bit jarring. The first thing to note is that Breck will be playing a full eight game IMAC schedule, rather than playing only once against Minnehaha and/or Providence as they had in the past. There are fewer games against AA programs, and the typical contests against Wayzata, Moorhead, STMA, etc. have been replaced by mid-level opponents in SLP, AHA, and Robbinsdale. There are still some challenging games like Orono, Blake, Cathedral, and Mahtomedi, but overall this is more in line with the Breck schedules of 15 to 20 years ago, before they were a consistent Class A power.

I can't speak for every team that left, but location and flexibility were the two key factors for at least two of the big ones that left. Having JV in Blaine and varsity at Ridder wasn't ideal especially for teams from the southwest suburbs. Also, as much fun as it is to have a bracket and clear champion, many teams would prefer to have a set schedule where they choose their competition. That way, for instance, the lake conference teams aren't playing each other for a third time, and they can coordinate to ensure JV and Varsity play at separate times.

It's mainly because the boys this year is on Saturday the 29th, then Monday the 31st, and Tuesday the 1st. Most school administrations didn't want games on a holiday.
