It does matter. 8th Graders, Freshmen,Sophomores and Juniors are not eligible for Mr. Hockey Award. It sounds like Lakeville will have a couple more Mr. Hockey candidates in the next year or two.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 9:35 amDoes it matter? Go Big- we will have that situation this year. Luedkte will be a Mr Hockey finalist but Brink is the best player on Tonka, assuming he returns. For that matter, we had that situation on Tonka last year.
WarmUp-and maybe a couple years from now LVN starting goalie Skylar Vetter will be first girl on boys varsity to win the Brimsek , even something Maddie couldnt do.

WM...while I won’t argue that Brink wasn’t their “best” player, I will assert that Luedtke was their most impactful player last year. I mean, did they even lose any games when Luedtke was healthy (and played)? Definitely a six of one & a half dozen of another argument here. While it will hurt big time if BB doesn’t return from Juniors, after picking up Streetar & Motzko...Tonka will still be the team to beat in AAWestMetro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 3:54 pm Go Big- we will have that situation this year. And if we're talking about Mr. Hockey finalists, Tonka had deserving one last year in Loheit, even though I'd agree with hockey59 that Brink and Luedtke were their top two players and their most valuable players, in some order. I'm not going to dig through lists now, but I'm sure Loheit isn't alone in that status. I'm not sure why a top 10 senior in the state should be denied a spot on the list just because he happens to have more talented underclassman teammates.hockey59 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:17 pmWM...while I won’t argue that Brink wasn’t their “best” player, I will assert that Luedtke was their most impactful player last year. A better reason to say a player won't be Mr. Hockey Finalist is because he isn't one of the top 10 seniors in the state.

I looked it up. Tonka was 21-0-2 with Luedtke in the lineup last season and 27-2-2 overall. So they were 6-2-0 with Luedtke out of the lineup in the month of January with losses to Duluth East and Edina, two teams that Tonka beat later in the season with Luedtke in the lineup.

Correct Karl . Last year wouldn’t have been the first time. Even in recent history. 2017 Grand Rapids comes to mind .

Still very early obviously but Koster and Donovan aren't exactly helping their cases so far. Brodzinski on the other hand..

Night - agree on that ,and might have to move up TKukk if he continues his torrid pace

Speaking of Brodzinski, he says he returned to his HS team to take care of some unfinished business, similar to what Koster and Donovan have said.TheNightman wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:17 am Still very early obviously but Koster and Donovan aren't exactly helping their cases so far. Much like Sammy Walker last year, if Brodzinski can approach 60 points I see him winning Mr Hockey. Looking at Blaine’s schedule, they’ve got a gauntlet featuring MG, Elk, and Andover twice, DE, EP, WBL, and HM. If he puts up 60 with that schedule he should win it - unless another player puts together a more impressive season, which is certainly possible.

To me, the senior class seems a little weak this year. Couple good candidates but not 1,2 or 3 so called "freaks"
Let me pose this questions out to the experts (that's you guys)
IF Mr. Hockey allowed the winner to be a JUNIOR and not only SENIORS......Who would win Mr. Hockey.... Would it still be a senior...or ??????

Well...Brink stayed in the USHL, it’s kind of a moot pointyesiplayedhockey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 8:26 am To me, the senior class seems a little weak this year. Couple good candidates but not 1,2 or 3 so called "freaks"

Biondi and Gleason might make the list of finalists

Ultimately I don't think it's going to matter much because Donovan has the draft stock, but it'd be nice to see someone make it interesting.
Re: Possible Mr. Hockey Finalists 2018-2019
Yeah, but Donovan does have to start doing better than one point per game to close the deal. And Biondi would have a shot if they allowed Juniors AND he played for a AA teamTheNightman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:55 am Ultimately I don't think it's going to matter much because Donovan has the draft stock, but it'd be nice to see someone make it interesting.

It's Bryce Brodzinski's to lose... Came back from a successful stint in the USHL to play High School hockey even though everybody told him he shouldn't.. He just wanted to be with his friends and make one more run he said in the news clip. The coaches/HSL are loving this story... and he's been a scoring machine so far!
Absolutely running away with it unless something very political gets in the way...

Not sure what you’re smoking Bo...Bryce is a hell of a player, but to say he’s running away with it (at this point) is Common Man (preposterous statement tournament) worthyMrBoDangles wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 8:49 am It's Bryce Brodzinski's to lose... I'm not saying the Bo is 100% right, but Brodzinski is playing better than the other 3-4 guys I have seen who we have been discussing on here. Koester, Donavan, and Langenbrunner just haven't impressed this year. Granted, I did only watch Koester play for about a period until he was taken out in the Chaska/Blake game.hockey59 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:08 amNot sure what you’re smoking Bo...Bryce is a hell of a player, but to say he’s running away with it (at this point) is Common Man (preposterous statement tournament) worthyMrBoDangles wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 8:49 am It's Bryce Brodzinski's to lose... Kukkonen has been playing well though. I want to see him play a bit more. Exciting kid.

I don't think anyone would argue that Brodzinski isn't playing better than the other guys, but that's just a part of how this award is won. That guy for that thing wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:31 amI'm not saying the Bo is 100% right, but Brodzinski is playing better than the other 3-4 guys I have seen who we have been discussing on here. I think the real contenders are Donovan, Koster, Brodzinski, Huglen, Luedtke, and maybe Kukkonen now. Donovan is still the favorite IMO.

I knew your hive would get punctured
Re: Possible Mr. Hockey Finalists 2018-2019
Brodzinski- 5 games played - 19 points
Donovan - 5GP - 4 points
Koster - says he has played 6 of the 7 games, but I thought he missed more than one game with the injury, - 9 points
Huglen - 6GP - 15 points
Luedtke - 6 GP - 10 points
Kukkonen- 6 GP -18 points
Jensen- 5GP- 8 Points
Now, I don't agree with the part about how Brodzinski came back and that somehow makes him more likely to get votes. All these kids could have left, some just made the decision to come back earlier than others. Huglen I think was in the same position as Brodzinski so I don't think that helps his case any.
But I do think he is in the lead at this point. Donovan was obviously the favorite with his high draft status, but if he only get 30-40 points I think it would be hard to place him ahead of a guy who could get 80. He is on pace for 95 right now, but the schedule will get harder. The most impressive part about Brodzinski's contribution I think is that his team only has 27 goals in 5 games, and he has played a role in 19 of them.
Depending on the criteria for the voters, it could be a pretty wide open race.
