Class A Rankings 11-25-18

Post by HShockeywatcher » Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:27 pm

It looks like we're in for another exciting year of Class A hockey. Lots of familiar faces in Let's Play Hockey's preseason rankings, along with a couple new comers. It should be fun to watch as teams from many different parts of the state are competing and all sections are represented in the top 16 teams. Lots of games among teams ranked there will for sure be some moving around of teams next week already!

Enjoy!

1. Hermantown (0-0)
The team who got 3rd at state last year, the Hawks again have a majority of their schedule is against AA competition. Their first 6 games are against AA teams.
This week: Fri @ Wayzata, Sat vs Lakeville South

2. Cathedral (0-0)
The Crusaders didn't make it to state last year and this year will be jockeying with Alexandria for seed in the section. Two big games this week to start the season.
This week: Tues @ Fergus Falls, Fri vs Warroad, Sat vs East Grand Forks

3. Alexandria (0-0)
Runners Up at state last year, the Cardinals will be looking to make it back to the X. Their first five games should be wins, but their 6th game they play Cathedral on the road, which will likely have playoff implications.
This week: Tues @ Little Falls, Thurs @ Willmar, Sat @ Mankato West

4. Mahtomedi (0-0)
The #2 seed at state last year, the Zephyrs are the favorite to return to state this year. As has been the case in recent years, their schedule means they may end up with more losses than teams they are ranked above. They will be challenged in at least 2 of the first 3 and won't see good Class A competition until winter break.
This week: Tues vs St Paul Academy, Sat @ Mounds View

5. Greenway (1-0) (0-0)
The Raiders started off the season with a win in Grand Rapids. Will they be tested on the road this week?
This week: Thurs @ Virginia

6. East Grand Forks (2-0) (2-0)
The Green Wave opened the season beating the defending state champions at home. Their next 4 games are on the road followed by 10 home games in a row. Can they compete with Cathedral on the road playing a game their third day in a row?
This week: Thurs @ Grand Forks Red River, Fri @ Totino-Grace, Sat @ Cathedral

7. Orono (0-2) (0-1)
The defending State Champions graduated their goalie and 4 of their top 5 scorers from last year and opened the season losing their first 2 games. A 2-goal road loss to EGF doesn't seem a terrible way to start though; they should be able to get a notch in the win column this week.
This week: Thurs vs Litchfield

8. Warroad (0-0)
The Warriors open the season on the road against 2 ranked teams.
This week: Fri @ Cathedral, Sat @ Sartell

9. Thief River Falls (1-1) (1-0)
The Prowlers open their season with a solid Class A win and have two Class A opponents this week.
This week: Tues @ Roseau, Fri @ St Paul Johnson, Sat @ Minneapolis

10. Mankato East (1-1) (0-0)
The Cougars made it to state last year and came home with a win. They return 8 of the 10 double digit scorers from last season, including their leading scorer. It is going to be fun to follow this team this year.
This week: Thurs vs Rochester Mayo, Fri vs Mound Westonka

11. Monticello (1-0) (1-0)
This week: Tues @ St Michael-Albertville, Fri @ Pine City

12. Sartell (0-0)
This week: Fri vs Crookston, Sat vs Warroad

13. Northfield (0-0)
This week: Thurs vs Faribault, Sat vs Henry Sibley

14. Virginia (1-0) (1-0)
This week: Thurs vs Greenway, Sat @ International Falls

15. Mound Westonka (1-0) (1-0)
This week: Tues vs Southwest Christian, Fri @ Mankato East

16. Litchfield (0-0)
This week: Tues @ New Ulm, Thurs @ Orono

17. South St Paul (0-0)
This week: Sat @ Tartan

18. Minneapolis (0-0)
This week: Tues @ Kennedy, Thurs @ Tartan, Sat vs Thief River Falls

19. Breck (1-1) (1-1)
This week: Tues vs St Louis Park, Thurs vs Delano

20. Delano (0-2) (0-2)
This week: Thurs @ Breck
