Thank you.
Should not try and watch Blue Bloods, pet the dog and do hockey stuff at the same time.

Kennedy wins starting to show signs of life (correction - tie)
Seriously, that has been one of the strangest midseason turnarounds I can recall. Kennedy was just getting crushed by mediocre teams, including an 11-1 loss to Delano. Then they go and beat Mound and tie LDC. Not sure what prompted the vastly improved play, but it suddenly makes the middle class of 2A even more muddled.

Makes you wonder how good Mound and LDC really are.

That's another angle.

I don’t think either team is great, that’s for sure. But Mound did play Mankato East very evenly (5-3 road loss, empty-netter) and defeated SWC/Richfield, a team that shut out Kennedy 5-0. I have watched Mound online twice and they are at least competent. They certainly appeared to be a better team than Delano (whom I watched Breck defeat 4-1), who just crushed Kennedy 11-1 prior to the win over Mound.

I know that the eye test and comparative scores are nowhere near perfect, but I still would never have expected Kennedy to be within 3 goals of Mound going into that game.

Thanks Elliott. I assume these are computer algorithm generated? I don’t understand the love the computers have for TG. I am guessing it is largely based on the win over Elk River, since those systems tend to weight AA wins more. Otherwise it actually seems pretty stable already and not too far from human polls.

Stang - that site is big on strength of schedule - especially when an A team beats a AA team.

Mayo also beat Mankato East 5-2 a few weeks ago, so I’m pretty convinced now that they are currently the best team in the Big 9 and they should be favored against the Class A teams in the conference. I discounted Mayo early in the season, but they seem to be back as a respectable AA program.

Not really an upset, but the big result for ranking purposes last night was TRF over Warroad 3-1. TRF defense and goaltending are going to be a challenge to beat.

With two wins over 3A opponents this week (Windom 6-2 and Redwood Valley 9-0), I suggest that we can move Marshall up in the rankings, from 37 to 36.

My contribution. =P~

Mark your calendars....Saturday January 5th.....Minnesota River travels to Marshall in a Big South showdown. Both could be top 20 A teams by then.

No no no. Everyone knows that Section 3A is cr@p (Minnesota River is in Section 1A?) Thus, Marshall could only be Creme of the Cr@p. Maybe MN River will be top 20, but I doubt Marshall wil rise above 35 or 36. [-X

Marshall is in good position to take advantage of a new arena and the excitement that surrounds it. However, I am curious why (outside their early tournament) they do not pick up some tougher non-conference games. That would definitely help with garnering some more respect around the state. Looks to me like they could slip into the top 20 anytime, but it is hard to get a read on how good they are with the schedule they play. Just my humble opinion.

Part of the problem is that Marshall is locked into a full home and away schedule in the Big South, which takes up 16 of their 25 games. Add in games against the other 3A teams, and the two holiday tournaments are the only other nonconference opportunities. The Schwan’s Cup could be interesting for Marshall with several solid 5A teams (Princeton, Chisago, and Pine City) in their division. I’d like to see how the Tigers would fare against a tougher schedule as well, but the conference affiliation is a limiting factor for now.

Luverne ran into this, Marshall will and Minnesota River will too. Conference schedules are what they are.... the Big South is improved. No one of significance will travel to Marshall, Luverne, or LeSeuer. There is no reason too when you can get games closer to home. 3A needs to win some games at state to get some home and home series. They will, it just is a matter of time.

I don’t.
Go to St. Peter and watch the 3A playoffs, it is not crap, it is very good hockey.
I know you are being sarcastic Teak
The Minnesota River/ Marshall games will be very good

Spot on, goldy, you know 3A hockey very well. =D>

Yeah, I am being sarcastic.

As you said, Luverne ran into this. I notice that Luverne just got beaten by Rochester Lourdes. They have taken on a tougher schedule in the past 2 or 3 years, but unfortunately this year's teams isn't as competitive as they were before. It is tough for them being in the far southwest corner of the state. Marshall is marginally closer to the center of the state. The Schwan Cup games will give us a better idea; Princeton is first up and then who knows who they will get.
