I am thinking Roseau by 3.
Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
Yea. Roseau looks pretty good this year. The game is in Warroad so I wouldn’t bet a nickel on this one.

Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
Generally, when in Warroad, the visiting team in down by 2 players. Officials should just have Warrior patches on their chest!

Looks like that was kind of an anti-climatic game. Roseau 5, Warroad 0.
Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
Roseau has one of it better teams in recent years and Warroad is down.

Nope. Sorry Kniven, but that is an exhausting take. It was the best. Probably not even top 5 anymore, especially since they are not in the same class. Gotta have playoff matchups to be in the top tier of rivalries. HM v WBL, DE v CEC, GR v DE, EP v Edina, are all far better. The Warroad/Roseau thing keeps getting regurgitated for some odd reason, but it’s past it’s heyday.kniven wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 12:18 pmExcellent! Agreed. The game itself may not be EP/Edina (although I wouldn’t slouch on Roseau. They are red hot) I’ll bet anything it draws more than EP/Edina. Probably more than most of those games actually (I don’t know the numbers just guessing). Even if it has lost a little it is still a big deal in the communities. Head up to Roseau for the rematch and you will see.

The Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. You can’t get a more electric vibe during the regular season. Again, it’s like people talk up Roseau/Warroad just because it’s what they hear, not because they gave it any conscious thought.

You can’t just choose one game and say that one game proves it is the best. There are highly anticipated games each year. Minnetonka and Andover this year would be a good example. That doesn’t mean that makes a great rivalry. Also I could argue that with 7AA using QRF doesn’t that essentially mean all games have the same weight for the regular season? Your QRF score is really what matters and that factors all games. Head to head has less value.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:31 pmThe Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
Or Warroad, for that matter. I was lucky enough to be up there in 2008 and catch a Roseau game when both teams were outstanding, and it was maybe the best hockey experience of my life. The rivalry is just so intense and historic that it doesn’t matter if one or both of the teams are down. Hockey means everything to those communities, even more so than in Section 7.elliott70 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:42 pmGo to Roseau you will have your eyes openedTheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:31 pmThe Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. Agreed. Section 7 and the entire world does not have anything like Warroad vs. Roseau in high school hockey.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:44 pmOr Warroad, for that matter. Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
It was an example of how intense the rivalry can be. Minnetonka and Andover are not rivals, not in the same section. QRF takes something away from the meaningfulness, but Roseau and Warroad aren’t in the same class meaning no chance of a playoff matchup. So talk about head-to-head having no value. Warroad Roaseau is a glorified scrimmage.7TIMECHAMPS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:23 pmYou can’t just choose one game and say that one game proves it is the best. Well I am going back to the 60's for my first memories of these games, so 'old' yeah, you bet. Some of the best games I remember were at Hibbing Memorial for 'Region' 7 semis and finals. But we are talking rivalry - a game that is important every time just for the sake of that game.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:17 pmCouple of old farts stuck in 1990.
Sorry, 'sonny boy' but it does not matter the age of the fan but the game itself. In this case, you lose.
Grand Rapids - Greenway is bigger than any you listed other than maybe White Bear and Hill.
Eveleth - Virginia
Breck - Blake
I am sure there are great ones in the southern part of the state, where kids grow up playing the town a few miles down the road in all sports and grow up to watch their kids play against the same families. Its part of the fabric of the community.

Rankings, play-offs, QRF's, Class this or that, all of that has nothing to do with it.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:35 pmIt was an example of how intense the rivalry can be. Its a rivalry. Its the biggest game of the year.
We beat you, even in a loss you find something positive and it sticks with you and your teammates.
Its a rivalry.

Re: Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
I have not attended a Roseau v Warroad game, but have seen the NBC documentaries and youtube videos and remain unimpressed. Grand Rapids vs Greenway was the best rivalry when they were in the same class. Since Greenway dropped down I could care less. Games vs Greenway and Hibbing, or if they played Mankato East are the same. I only associate class A opponents with the same emotion as Buicks, sadness.

"When was the last time you were at one of these games again?"
Warroad - Roseau
last year
Greenway - Grand Rapids two years ago
Brainerd - Bemidji, Brainerd - Moorhead in football this year.
In youth baseball, Bemidji - Waite Park every year for the last 30 years.
There are just some contests you want to see.
Surely you must have competed in something in your life that was the one you wanted to win above all others.
If not, then I am sad that you did not compete in a rivalry, that you missed out on that.

Sorry but you are speaking to something that you have no knowledge of if you think this is a glorified scrimmage. The JV game is more intense than a couple of the rivalries you mentioned.
