I wasn’t able to catch the first period, but from what I have seen, Hermantown has controlled puck possession and spent plenty of time in the Tonka zone. The Hawks just weren’t able to get many shots through on net until picking up a rebound goal late in the period. Minnetonka has noticeably better team speed and is creating problems in transition.

Edit: Also, this video stream looks like it is from 1985, which is probably fitting for that barn in HT.

Wow, what a game, and probably one that deserved to end in a tie. A few random observations...
1. Hermantown had Tonka on their heels for the second half of the game and actually looked like the better team.
2. How many teams are consistently rolling out their fourth line in the third period of a close game against Minnetonka, as the Hawks did?
3. Minnetonka must have iced the puck over a dozen times in the third period and overtime. Those long outlet pass attempts seemed to backfire on them.
4. If I’m drafting position players to start a MN high school team, Blake Biondi might well be the top pick.

The turning point in the Tonka game was near the end of the second period when Luedtke was sent to the penalty box for roughing a third-line Hawk who sprayed Glock with ice after a whistle (unsportsmanlike penalty). With Luedtke out, Biondi scored 10 seconds later to make it 3-1 at the end of the second, and an early goal in the third by Justin Thomas made it 3-2. Credit to Hermantown for putting Tonka on its heels for two periods.

Defense optional this afternoon in the tony western suburbs as Cathedral wins a wild one over Orono 9-6.

Eden Prairie and Duluth East settle for a 1-1 tie. Pretty even game; both teams scored in the first and had their moments, then East controlled the 2nd while EP was the better team in the 3rd, and there were chances both ways in OT. East had all of its players for the first time all season, though Paine was playing a bit gingerly and not 100% in his physical game, even though he did throw a clean hit on Jensen than had him moving pretty gingerly. (Thankfully, he came right back out.) The difference in the dangerousness of the power play is night and day with him healthy, and elsewhere, Rabold had a strong game in net.

I like EP's depth up front, and their D, which has had a few wobbly moments when I've seen them this season, was strong today. I think they're capable of pulling some upsets in Lake play. All in all, a pretty entertaining, tight game.

Biondi may be the best forward in the state. Certainly ranks right up there with the top 3 Mr Hockey forwards.

Blaine 8 - Holy Family 2. Thought this one was going to be closer. I know HF is down and Blaine is up, and that HF’s recent wins have almost all been vs Single A (mostly weak Single A) teams, but still. Anybody at the game to provide context on if the game was as much a blowout as score suggests?
