Based on current year #'s
Grand Rapids 972
Holy Angels 624
Cretin 1145
Hill 629

So going back to eh year won it would have to be Holy or Hill.
Public School
Roseau and Grand Rapids.

Got it...Thanks.... trick question...I think they won it the first year or so it split

Try again...Eveleth? They won it when it was only one class so technically they could have been the smallest

WARROAD WON IN 1994 - THE FIRST YEAR OF Class A.

They also won in 1996 2003 2005

Runner-up in 2000 2009 and 1997

Prior to the split I don't think they ever won a state championship.

Eveleth Intl Falls Greenway - but at the time they won were probably bigger than Roseau.

Williams is likely the smallest program to play in the state tournament - runner-ups to someone along time ago.

Smallest private school to win during the Independent School Tournament days (1961-74)? I’d have to guess either Duluth Cathedral or SPA (pre-merger with Summit).

Hibbing was not a small school. They graduated 500 kids in the 60s so I assume they were still graduating a lot in the early 70s.

My educated guess would be International Falls or Hill Murray. Both Hibbing and Greenway were pretty big, relatively speaking, in their day. Hill Murray was around 300 students back in the day.

In the 60's IFalls graduated 270 to 330 kids.
With a high of 335.

Greenway was not big. Greenway and Eveleth were about the same size. Greenway graduated between 150 to 175 a year. Falls, Virginia, Rapids and of course Hibbing were bigger.

Hibbing's 1973 graduating class was over 500.

AA is only since mid-90s. Why are there mentions of small schools that won back in the single-class days?

We veered of course once it was established that Grand Rapids was the smallest after Roseau not counting private schools.

Besides, the AA answer was fairly simple. The overall, AA and single class, is actually a much better question.
