"Waterloo(USHL) '99 F Griffin Ness is now committed to North Dakota, after previously being committed to Air Force. Great HS player at Wayzata that was overlooked due to his size, but has been really good in the USHL this year."

So awesome. Seems like a lot of older guys committing to top tier programs. For all the hype around the early commits at age 14-15, there's still a place for the standouts at 19-20.
Be kind. Rewind.

I don’t understand this one. This kid was a top player from day one. Speed Grit Scoring. Just an all around great hockey player. Maybe it’s his size or it’s the herd mentality of scouts (laziness). Congrats Griffin and family.O-townClown wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 7:13 pm So awesome. Seems like a lot of older guys committing to top tier programs. Yes, which isn't a place kids commit to if they have an offer from schools like North Dakota.

Congrats Griff! Nice to see hard work rewarded. GB

I don’t know, seems like a step down to me. At least Air Force has made the NCAA tournament the past few years and actually won a game thereO-townClown wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:30 pmYes, which isn't a place kids commit to if they have an offer from schools like North Dakota.

He went under the radar and took a first offer. Having a breakout year in the USHL (and World Junior A tourney) and caused big schools to notice. Very similar to Carter Randklev (previously Arizona State U and now NoDak).elliott70 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 3:09 pmYes, but UND is in North Dakota which is next to MN.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 3:04 pmI don’t know, seems like a step down to me. The Air Force Academy is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near the base of Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs. Colorado College is also located in Colorado Springs, just north of the downtown area. Denver University is about one hour north.

It’s kind of an inside joke since I live in Denver (hence the 5280), and Mark and I correspond some through PM. But, yeah, Colorado is a trash state filled with degenerates like me. I don’t know why anyone would want to live here when you could have the splendid scenery and weather of Grand Forks.612hockeytown wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 3:43 pmHe went under the radar and took a first offer. In all seriousness, service academies are not for everyone, and you have to be all in to make that kind of commitment. I don’t blame anyone who may have second thoughts and prefer traditional college life.

Fun fact: the location of the Cadet Arena is over 7000 ft in elevation. Makes for some winded flatlanders visiting for road trips coming in from basically sea level.JerseyDave wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 4:25 pmThe Air Force Academy is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near the base of Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs. I was in Denver just a month or so ago.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 4:30 pm It’s kind of an inside joke since I live in Denver (hence the 5280), and Mark and I correspond some through PM. Actually spent the day in Boulder.

Been awhile, but I lived in Colorado Springs for about two years, then Boulder for another two years and made numerous trips out there otherwise.
