What is the story, if any, behind #66 for Thief River Falls?

It just seems weird to have a #66...
Also, I know some schools/colleges have traditions surrounding certain numbers. I was just wondering if there was a similar tradition with #66.

Kids have been wearing that number at TRF for decades. Just another number. Not quite sure I understand why it wouldn't be.

Traditionally a high school hockey roster would included numbers 1-35. In more recent years it is more common to have a 1-50 range to include both V and JV. The number 66 would an anomaly (very uncommon) and not just another number in the Minnesota High School Hockey scene. Understanding this, the OP's question makes sense, especially given the long history and tradition of the TRF program.

I asked a few TRF parents about it a few years ago and they didn't know of any significance. Maybe there is a story to it or maybe it is just a number that is just kept on every new jersey order because it was on the last one.

Correct, as I said it's just another number. No significance at all. As to what numbers traditionally belong on a hs roster, I would bet 99.9% of the people in NW Minnesota have never heard of that; hence the insignificance of the number.
Thanks for the info.

Brendan Bushy wore it for them so I assumed there was some significance.

I think I remember seeing 66 in youth games years and years ago.

Maybe a player requested it in the 80's for Mario and they have just kept it.
