I was there Ken when the whole thing started.
Ted Brill started it.
After Ted died, John Russo stepped up and said he wanted to rebrand it, raise sponsor money, step it up another notch, and change how teams were picked.
John improved the league and drew more attention to it.
I was the liaison between Minnesota Hockey board and the Elite League board. MH was concerned John would not stay within the rules of USAH and MH. The fact was John was adamant that everything was done proper and as transparent as possible.

The article was written in 2016 and says it was in its 13th year putting it at 2003 which would make sense as Ted died in the spring of 2003.
