Re: Tourney Fever
All that tuition money WBL saves goes to buy tickets when they make the State Tourney
Re: Tourney Fever
I hate January and February, but as soon as the section tournaments begin, Winter is over for me. Forget the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl; the Minnesota boys high school hockey Sectionals and State tournament is the sporting event of the year. And there is a difference between small-town and big-city support.
I grew up having 3 favorite teams: Greenway, Grand Rapids and the Region/Section 7 team that went to State if Greenway or Rapids lost. The team that wins Section 7 represents every town (large or small), and thereby, every citizen in Section 7 when at State. I've lived all over Minnesota, and there is no other Section in Minnesota that can match that, with the possible (though slim, Elliott) exception of Section 8. Section 7 is the most important section in the state. Be it history, or the Section-wide passion exhibited by its fans, or towns 'shutting down' for a few days in NE Minnesota, or chumps like me continually stating its relevance, it is the one section that engenders state-wide discourse regularly.
Don't believe me. Then why do 2 discussion threads - The Hermantown Thread (684 posts) and, more specifically, the 7AA 2018-2019 thread (657 posts) - dominate this forum?

I grew up a Bronco.
Re: Tourney Fever
Because Luverne has faded from relevancy. The 2015-16 3A thread......701 posts, 143,133 views. Added together the Hermantown and 7AA threads fall about 50,000 views short of that 3A thread. You might have a chance to get more posts, but......
The 3A 2014-15 thread you might ask? 983 posts, 213,090. views. Not a chance.
Keep dreaming and your two threads combined might approach what happens in 3A but I doubt it.

Tried finding the '3A thread.' Couldn't. Thanks for doing so.goldy313 wrote: βTue Mar 05, 2019 7:46 pmBecause Luverne has faded from relevancy. The 2015-16 3A thread......701 posts, 143,133 views. But, seriously. 3A??? C'mon, man.

Anybody else make the mistake of working today and having trouble being productive? Asking for a friend.

Not sure, but my friend is saying that they have a fever and might have to leave work early. Hope it's nothing contagious.

Re: Tourney Fever
I started coughing at 10:30. My supervisor told me to go home, with a wink. I think this is one of those bugs which comes on between 10-10:30 but only lasts three days.

My boss will not let me leave.
Re: Tourney Fever
Good, my friend will be relieved to hear that. He hasn't left work yet, but I did catch him feverishly muttering something about a 'North Branch' and getting a puck on the net and <expletive deleted> private schools, so clearly he's not doing well and probably shouldn't be in the office right now.east hockey wrote: βWed Mar 06, 2019 1:13 pmI started coughing at 10:30. Re: Tourney Fever
For the sake of others in his office, he needs to go home. It would be a selfless act.ChrisK wrote: βWed Mar 06, 2019 1:48 pmGood, my friend will be relieved to hear that. Re: Tourney Fever
I agree, but he's trying to be all tough and thinks things will fall apart if he's not here. I'm worried that I'm going to catch the same fever and have to miss work tomorrow and Friday--I know they can get by without me here.east hockey wrote: βWed Mar 06, 2019 1:53 pmFor the sake of others in his office, he needs to go home. The cure for that is a packerboy scotch at the liffey.

Re: Tourney Fever
Well, I've clearly caught the fever and will have to miss work Thursday and Friday. Finnegan's has been my medicine of choice for this kind of fever in the past, as I've found that the Packerboy Scotch medication works a little too quickly and I prefer a slower acting medication on Quarterfinal Thursday. But we'll see what the doctor prescribes.elliott70 wrote: βWed Mar 06, 2019 2:33 pmChrisK wrote: βWed Mar 06, 2019 2:07 pmI agree, but he's trying to be all tough and thinks things will fall apart if he's not here.
