Video Replay

Post by Goldy Gopher »

Why is it that 8 teams in each class, for 3 games, are given the benefit of video replay? Yes, the argument is that on the largest stage, calls deserve to be correct. Why don't they deserve to be correct during the games that get the teams to this apparent bubble where correct calls matter more than the rest of he season?

If you're going to use replay at state, is it feasible to use it at all games? Of course not. So what makes the teams that make it to state subject to a separate set of rules?

The technology is available and it is used in all of the games, it makes sense. In the section games, there are so many venues, not every one would have the ability.

Some sections would be able to do it for their final and maybe semifinals...do any use it?

Much as I wanted Greenway to win, the Cathedral goal that was initially waved-off and followed quickly by an apparent Greenway goal is a great illustration of why if the technology is available, it should be used.

I can understand why the ref waived it off initially--popped out immediately, sounded like it hit the back top pop--but to get that call wrong would have been a big swing in the course of the game. Yes, replay's not available for every game and is a change from the regular season, but I'm all for it, when available.

And while we're talking replay: props to KSTP for the great camera work at the tournament. It's been great to reverse angles and overhead in addition to the main shot. A pleasure to watch.

So your argument is "section games are unable to have replay, so we shouldn't use it at state either"?

Calls deserve to be correct during every game. Unfortunately it just isnt practical to get all the arenas used for the sections equipped with cameras for replay. Yes, that probably led to some missed or wrong calls. But that doesnt mean we shouldn't use replay at the state tournament. Two wrongs dont make a right.
