Duluth Marshall! That’s not going to last long. Hermantown and Duluth East gobble up all local recruits. They moved to 7AA to protest the hamsters being in 7A. Please go back. It’s embarrassing 😐

Anoka hockey now in 7AA. What’s there story the last 20 years? Are they trending up? What hockey program are they a feeder to? I know they won a state championship within the last 20 years. Anoka better than Elk River and Forest Lake. Who will be the typical 4 teams on the bottom of section 7AA now that C/I and St. Francis left. STMA left a few years ago. I could never stand that place 🙄

Duluth East
Grand Rapids
Andover
Elk River
CEC
Forest Lake
Anoka

7 teams in 7AA now. ?
I wouldn't be surprised to see Marshall back in A soon. Forest Lake just doesn't have the firepower to compete with the top 4. CEC has 1, maybe 2 years left of being competitive in 7AA.

1 to 2 years sounds about right for CEC. Yea, it’s tough out there for sure in AA land. Oh well. To each his own. I’m sticking with my purple 🤓

Hey Kniven! Yes, it is pretty embarrassing watching my kid play at Marshall. NOT!!! The move to AA had nothing to do with Hermantown, but rather Flaherty thought it would help out with getting kids to the school. Which I will say it didn't. I don't disagree that we probably should have moved down to A, but then everyone would bitch that another private is at A. The school is losing enrollment and I am not even sure how we will field a JV this year. We came to Marshall for the education 1st and then I liked the hockey schedule at the AA level. Something about being the smallest AA program in the state. I never, ever thought we would go to state, but our team 2 years ago was fun when we came into Northwoods and knocked Cloquet out of the playoffs. [-X Seems like we are now right on par with Cloquet as my kid is on his 3rd year and on his 3rd coach. And as part of the LSC it only helps your QRF to beat us as a AA program compared to A. You talk about how you love 218 hockey???? Clearly can see it in this post! =D>

Yep. Marshall spanked CEC in Cloquet a couple years ago right out of the playoffs. I don’t believe the montra of moving to AA for the schedule either. Afraid of Hermantown. Duluth Marshall is a strip mall posing as a high school. Duluth Marshall youth hockey is non existent. Duluth kids opt to Marshall? Any body opt or choose to Marshall for hockey. Maybe as A but not a chance in AA. Getting your brains beat in and no jv and in A IS REALLY COOL THOUGH 😐 although, the education is very nice at Duluth Marshall. But so is Esko. I respect Marshall, but I just don’t really care what they do. I’m an idiot with an opinion. State wide, nobody cares that Marshall plays AA hockey really. It’s cool and all, though🙄. Duluth Marshall belongs in A hockey. That’s all. I don’t hate your school. It’s another option for kids and parents for an education 👍. Yes, I love 218 hockey programs, but Duluth Marshall isn’t a hockey program. It’s a why don’t you come play Duluth Marshall hockey in high school. Please. I try to think of a reason recruiters use. For the education. That’s about it? To play AA hockey? Good luck with that one. Was the program better off in A The last 25 years or AA the last 4. They did beat CEC in the playoffs in Cloquet so that might be a tough one to pick. You know, with CEC seeing a dominant AA program and all. Duluth Marshall is an excellent option for education in Duluth, for sure. Their girls hockey program, single A, is strong it seems. Cloquet and Marshall the only schools in the state where boys play AA and the girls play A? That’s my question ?

I don't believe for a second that the motive to go to AA was to bring in more kids to the school. Brendan was easily bringing in kids when they were A. Judd Peterson is a great example of that. They brought in 3 transfers back in 2009, 2 from Denfeld, and 1 from Virginia. Next year, they had another transfer come in from Denfeld, and in 2011, they had at least 1-2 more. In a matter of 3 years, they had 6-7 transfers. Hard to get many more than that. Also, most of the kids at Marshall do not go to school there because the hockey team is AA. He was running from Hermantown and Range Reffing, while trying to prove that he was still better than St. Thomas. Didn't work out.

Pert D from Grand Raids is pretty good. I’d put him second in the list.

There isn’t a Greyhound on that list. That’s weird. Has that ever happened? I’m thinking not. I like your list 👍

Little bit of knowing what's coming up from Bantams and what is returning, little bit of seeing certain guys/teams play, little bit of talking to coaches from some of these teams/associations, little bit of using HSEL and MNEPDL rosters

So is Andover looking at the next 10 years as being the best team on paper in 7AA? Just based on current high school/youth hockey teams?

On paper, maybe. Although they don't have the strongest teams coming up through the youth ranks. Whether you want to use YHH rankings or LPH (not sure either are the greatest ranking systems), Rapids had just as strong as a BAA team (per YHH NOW Rankings and LPH) as Andover did. Andover is also succeptible to lose kids to private schools (hearing an above average soon-to-be 1st year bantam may be on the way out to a metro private) whereas schools like DE, GR and CEC for the most part keep all of their high end talent.

Greniuk will likely put more points on the stat sheet, but long term I believe Kotzian will be the better D from ER.

From looking at their schedule on the home page, it shows the winner of the MN District playoff going to national tournament, and lists the Tier II national tournament in April. But yes it is the MN Hockey U18 program.

I am impressed with the geographic inclusion of the list. Are there any surprises or maybe unknowns that you identified in the development of your list?

In the unknown category: I'll throw the entire roster of Anoka on that list. I don't know much about them at all. Who will fill the net for Marshall with Busick playing all but a period for them last year will be something to watch. Who will score for DE? They lost almost 80% of their goals from last year.

As for surprises, you may see a few sophomores and one notable freshman making some noise for Andover this winter. I think CEC will be better than expected by some, even with the loss of Langenbrunner. If it was as hairy as I've heard it was with dad involved, sometimes its addition by subtraction. Also having the same coach again should help.

I'll agree with some below, Carpenter from FLake is a nice player, although I haven't seen him nearly as much as the other D listed above. As for the Greniuk vs Kotzian conversation, the one knock I have on Kotzian is size. if I remember correctly, he doesn't have the most weight on his 6' frame, which can be a detriment playing the northern physical teams come section time.
