Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
I did see your most recent post. Fascinating...lot going on up there. Sometimes, the best move one can make is knowing when to leave. Hard to do, tough deal. I always refer to Bill Cowher when he stepped down in Pittsburgh...longest tenured at that time, off a SB win recently, top 5 most successful during his time? But when asked WHY? He simply said, "its just time - they need a new voice here and its time - I owe that to the players for all they have given me"! Bing. Well done.Net Presence wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 1:20 am CakeScout, check out the early departures thread. I've had the info since early last week but, just haven't had time to post anything.
Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
Reliable sources say that one of the previously discussed possible yes transfer , or no transfer , decision might be under reconsideration . Stay tuned.

Waiting for one of our East Metro friends to provide further transfer update specifics , and any further coaching drama , on the East Side
Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
I wonder what the percentage of accuracy is on all these “rumors”. Seems like everyone has a “guy” that knows things.
Just thinking out load.

If high school hockey were on ESPN, then West Metro would be the defacto news breaking dude...per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and the NBA. I should start an 24 hour 7 day a week 365 days a year Minnesota State High School Hockey channel.

You are on to something. I hear a lot and wouldn't think of posting because the families involved in these matters should be able to make it known on their own timeline. That said, a lot of what I hear isn't accurate or was once accurate but doesn't come to pass because circumstances change.
Be kind. Rewind.

Interesting move geographically:
Heard on the Holiday up in Grand Rapids that there is a move in from Elk River- will be a Senior.
Was told he saw some varsity action last season as a junior in ER.

I think every junior in the program saw some Varsity time last year in ER. Numbers are down for the Elks, and they keep dropping.muckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 5:43 pm Interesting move geographically:

That is so weird. Elk River High School hockey is finished for at least the next 10 years. If they were dropped from 7AA, they would probably rebound.

Don't think section assignment has anything to do with it, something going on with the program. From what I've heard they are seeing a fair number of kids opt to play junior gold or just quit hockey completely.kniven wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 2:32 pmblueline_6 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 9:01 amI think every junior in the program saw some Varsity time last year in ER. You see that a lot, more so recently, I think a lot of kids 1. See where they fit or that the group behind or ahead of them is better. 2. Not willing to put in time and effort demanded 3. Burned out and just want to play for fun. 4. Feel spurned by coaches if not getting what they think they deserved. 5. Other things are now priorities (girls/boys, school, drugs, alcohol, work, etc). I think now there are more options and more entitled kids, so they pick up their ball and go home. I personally don't get it, make them cut you if you feel your on the bubble. Compete, sad but lots of kids don't have this like they use to I believe. Also see a lot of kids who feel they are automatically going to get a spot because they played JV last year, so don't work at it like they should, they get passed and they can't catch up.
Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
Great post! If kids are that good - they aren't going to quit. Are there some decent players in the past that have quit? Yes. But the majority feel like they are better than they are and use the excuse they got spurned or politics (or more like the parents do). If anything - kid would transfer or AAA/juniors. I always like the old quite of people when they talk about the HS glory days - "I would've been a D1 guy, but didn't like the coach, so I quit." The JV comment above is very true and they get passed up by incoming bantams because they think its like football, baseball or soccer - where everyone makes it and it goes from 9th grade team to JV to Varsity and they don't put the work in. The see 5 guys graduate - so they automatically think that they are plugged in to the varsity roster.PuckNA wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:57 am You see that a lot, more so recently, I think a lot of kids 1. Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
Elk Rivers numbers are down across the board, youth program is suffering as well. Other factors could be that ER is an aging exurb and there are not a lot of younger families moving into it. Socioecomincs play a part too, ER is more of a blue collar city and the cost of hockey is getting out of control for some families budgets.PuckNA wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:57 am You see that a lot, more so recently, I think a lot of kids 1. Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
Above is about as full of false facts as I have seen. Incoming sophomore class is one of the largest in years. Last years sophomore class was one of the smallest in years, but that age group has been small since those players were mites. ER is not an aging exurb and has a lot of new/newer homes being built. ER has NEVER had huge numbers. It is far from a blue collar community especially compared to what it used to be. Sadly, the transition from blue color community now has more entitled kids which has resulted in a shift away from the "old" ER mentality of we may not be the most talented but we will never be outworked.thefatcat wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 1:56 pmElk Rivers numbers are down across the board, youth program is suffering as well.
