You see that a lot, more so recently, I think a lot of kids 1. See where they fit or that the group behind or ahead of them is better. 2. Not willing to put in time and effort demanded 3. Burned out and just want to play for fun. 4. Feel spurned by coaches if not getting what they think they deserved. 5. Other things are now priorities (girls/boys, school, drugs, alcohol, work, etc). I think now there are more options and more entitled kids, so they pick up their ball and go home. I personally don't get it, make them cut you if you feel your on the bubble. Compete, sad but lots of kids don't have this like they use to I believe. Also see a lot of kids who feel they are automatically going to get a spot because they played JV last year, so don't work at it like they should, they get passed and they can't catch up.
Elk Rivers numbers are down across the board, youth program is suffering as well. Other factors could be that ER is an aging exurb and there are not a lot of younger families moving into it. Socioecomincs play a part too, ER is more of a blue collar city and the cost of hockey is getting out of control for some families budgets.
Above is about as full of false facts as I have seen. Incoming sophomore class is one of the largest in years. Last years sophomore class was one of the smallest in years, but that age group has been small since those players were mites. ER is not an aging exurb and has a lot of new/newer homes being built. ER has NEVER had huge numbers. It is far from a blue collar community especially compared to what it used to be. Sadly, the transition from blue color community now has more entitled kids which has resulted in a shift away from the "old" ER mentality of we may not be the most talented but we will never be outworked.
I dunno...an ER board member who's kid plays with mine says the youth program says otherwise?

He did tell, although it is so clever that you'd have to be familiar with the players in the program to catch it.

That's completely inaccurate. Last years sophomore class (2021's) was small because of the number of kids that quit or played J Gold. That class has definitely not been small since they were mites, don't know where you get that info from. Through most of youth hockey that class had 30+ skaters, plus 4-5 goalies. As second year bantams they had 27 skaters and 4 goalies. However, only about 12 skaters and 2 goalies tried out for HS last year, and a couple of the skaters got cut. There was an exodus in that class to J Gold last year, including a couple kids who had played Bantam AA.

The incoming sophomore class (2022's) was actually a little larger than last years through most of youth hockey. However, they took a hit when a number of kids quit after peewees, and now their numbers are roughly the same as last years sophomore class. We will see how many of them try out for high school.

The 2023 class is a small one, and always has been. After that the numbers come back up, roughly 35-40 skaters per class.

Hard to argue much with this, I'd flip-flop CDH and STA and of course several others are close, but it looks pretty close to me

I'll eat my hat if the Raiders have a better season than Blake. Obviously Gleason is an incredible HS player, but last season he looked mainly frustrated against good teams because they couldn't muster much of an attack.

Blake should be awfully good. They aren't so young anymore.

I'm not sure Blake is #1 on this list, but I also can't see them any lower than #3 either.

I am assuming his parents must have moved to enable him to be able to play this upcoming season?

Unless he is already a resident of the community he is going to and they claim financial hardship. Otherwise, yes.

I don't know specifics, but let's just say there are more than a few cases of people not actually changing residences. Kids stay with Grandma/Grandpa, Friends, rentals, etc. It's only an issue if you get caught...

Unless his parents live on the west side of MG all of those other cities in 5AA are a flippin' haul to get out to Victoria...that's insane to me why ppl would do that?

*He lives in the bubble right by the yacht club so I am befuddled how he'd go to a 5AA school without the parents moving (or he's taking the route you listed above)

It may not happen, just rumblings from what I hear. Then again I heard they will have another import this year as well from Green Bay, last year Canada, must be top notch learning going on there...

They should contemplate just renaming it Velocity / Breakaway High as the church aspect is really kind of a joke IMO.

Disclaimer..my kids attend catholic school...because they're naughty...and they need Jesus! :D
