Funny Kilen didn't make the second tryout. More fishy business. I'm told he will prob. Be a 3rd liner at Hermantown. Very small and doesn't pass.
Complete travesty that Cody Croal of NB isn’t on an EL roster (to my knowledge) Kid made National 15 Camp & is a really nice player. Politics have been a big joke in EL Selections for over a decade & it just keeps getting worse with each passing year. ☝️

Kilen is 5’9”-10”.. lead Virginia in assists last season.

More and more good hockey players passing on this league. Lots of second level kids playing in it.Then add the watered down tier 1 league. Minn hockey losing steam.....just going after the money of hopeful kids and parents. Hopefully regular season will be fun to watch
The fall season has been changing over the past couple of years, in addition to the factors you've mentioned above you also now have a number of other Tier 1 programs like the Blades, Blizzard, Blue Army and Magicians pulling in decent players by selling the showcase angle. To each their own, pick the path you think is best and run with it.

I agree that things have been changing and there are more options. I also agree that certain teams and coaches have more pull than others. Nobody can tell me that the 7-9 guys from Minnetonka are all better than some of the kids that were passed over. I have known some kids that I thought were locks to make it never get in, and seen others that I was shocked to make it. I think you see that in almost any league. However, almost all of the top talent in the state is in this league. My first experience watching games was last year. I was told by a friend that had a kid in the league to check it out. I loved it. If you are a fan of watching good hockey, it is addictive. Once you see one game you want to see more. Some of the playoff games last year were unbelievable. My favorite was Team Wisconsin versus Southeast. I love going and seeing kids I have never heard of because they play for a team that is not in the mix, or for a team that is too far away to see during the season. You sit in the stands and enjoy the talent on display. I plan on seeing as many games as possible this year and will do the same next year. There will always be kids that choose a different route no matter what you do. You can't control that, but I think back to what existed before this league and it was nothing. My thoughts are that the kids leaving so that they can go to a "showcase" and be seen should go to opening weekend and see all the scouts lined up on the rail around the rink at New Hope. I doubt they will see anything like that playing for the Blades or Blizzard. I am not ripping on those teams because I have known some great kids that have played for them and had things work out well. I am just stating that the Elite League still is the top dog in Minnesota for preseason hockey.

If you go to the Blades Showcase in Sept and the USHL Fall Classic in Pittsburgh - which Blades, Blizzard and Blue Army participate in (some both - some one event) - it is every college and junior team in the country at those events. I agree a ton are at the Elite League - but it is absolutely jammed at those events as well.

I cant speak for Blades or Blizzard, but I think Blue army U18 is a Select team, not Tier 1?
They will play the NAHL showcase in Blaine as a guest. As a guest of NAPL, they will not get to play the top NAPL teams, rather they play weak teams and smoke them. For the UHSL, they get to play at Omaha showcase, not Pittsburgh. You could probably make a case that HS Elite Team SE is the U18 tier1 team for Map/Blue Army.

The Blades and Blizzard play all the Top Tier 1 teams in those events. Blades has their Showcase and Blades/Blizzard both play in Pittsburgh. Blue Army was a bad example.

Team north pretty much every year Hermantown has 7-9 on the EL roster. Duluth East and Grand Rapids too. I will tell you that Hermantown, by far, has the most pull up here and it’s not even close.

I wonder if the Steeve's kid is a Holy Family recruit or is he playing at Eden Prairie. Unless his name was missed on the Elite League tryout list last week, he was given a guaranteed spot in the Elite League.
Correct, Steeve's appears to have been an auto-invite as was the goalie move-in Shantz playing at Tonka
Invites going to move in guys who never played MN HS hockey is BS. Is an out of state move in deserving of an invite spot over a MN kid who either doesn't get an invite or worse gets bumped from the tryout list? At least make move in's try out. They might be the next Gretzky and Dryden over at EP and Tonka, but 2 MN kids were left out to accommodate these guys.

218 puck. What are the top 10 programs since 2007 and beyond for the next 10-20 years based on the program, facilities, coaching and support from its communities. For this list, let’s go with sections 7 and 8 both classes. And make it top 20 if you’d like.

..." Anyone know why Christian Galatz from Cloquet is no longer on the North roster and now Zach Kilen from Hermantown is now on?..."
Galatz hat 3 points in HP Spring festival and did not make 54s
Might as well go to juniors and get some exposure.
Wilderness close to home and don't have to move to 952 like the Pros :)

He’ll be skating for the Wilderness before and after high school hockey. It is obvious if he is successful with the Wilderness that he would just stay there, in my opinion.

Brainered #2 in the west. Interesting. Looks good. Virginia - Eveleth will/should be a beast!

At least for the next 5 years that’s low for Roseau. Both bantam and peewees at the AA state tournaments. Nobody else on the list can say that. Not to mention they plain mopped the floor with some of the above teams. Brainerd is a huge swing and a miss looking at their bantams and peewees. 10 years out is really hard to predict. This year’s k-2? Pretty tough.

I wasn't thinking short term...
5 to 7 years out.

Prediction based on resources...
Youth program, coaches, available ice, other facilities and money and numbers and other intangibles.

OGF:

The 12th forward from last years Tonka team made a NAHL team this year.

So, yes the 7-9 guys from Tonka are excellent HS hockey players who have EARNED their way to the elite League.

Wow I didnt know they ranked 4th liners. How did they lose a game

Tonka is obviously a strong program and they have some solid players. However, this year's group is not like last year's group.

Yes I'm sure Sean Goldsworthy in his 3rd year of coaching is running roughshod over EL roster formations, and Curt Giles has no pull seeing that Edina only had 2 or 3 players named.
