Yes they were. LF controlled play throughout the first period. Cathedral scored right off the bat in the second, and then responded quickly after LF went back up 3-1, and you could tell that the Flyers were hanging on for dear life. The wheels came completely off after that point, unfortunately.

Also, what the heck is River Lakes doing in losing to a stinky Sartell team? RL confuses me.
RL gave up 3 PP goals and went 0-5 on the PP. Very similar to how Alex lost to Monti.

LF at Princeton tonight. Could be a tough game for LF. Princeton has been playing well of late, and LF coming off an emotional loss to SCC. LF has had trouble in Princeton in the past. Should be interesting.

No Caleb Strong for Alex after his ejection from the Monticello game. The Cards were lucky to avoid the upset.

2-1 Little Falls after one but it has not been pretty for the Flyers so far.

3-2 Princeton after 2

Good response by Fylers up 5-3 in the third

Cathedral 5, Alex 2. Cathedral owned the first period with 2 goals on 13(?) shots (one shot on goal.for Alex) including the first of the game. Alex came back and tied it at 2-2 at the end of two. The third, Perbix, Warner and Motzko took over and Alex couldn't answer.

A physical game, but fairly clean with only one penalty a side. The refs definitely let them play and I thought were very consistant.

Alex was without Caleb Strong again. I would give Chris Loken the star of the game for Alex as he turned away several Crusader odd man rushes, keeping the Cardinals in the game in the first period.

Wow Alexandria tied with SCC after 2 periods missing their top gun Strong very impressive!

Did Jack Smith play for Cathedral?

Little Falls and Alexandria have proven over the last week they can definately play with SCC. Section 6A should be fun not the run away some had predicted.

Maybe, but losing by 3 or 4 goals says to me that LF or Alex needs to play 3 full periods. Not easy. They would have to play a perfect game to beat them. SCC speed offensively is tough to overcome. Their forecheck is impressive and makes it difficult to get the puck out of the zone. If you can get some shots on the goalie, you've got a chance. But man! You better put together 3 good periods, because SCC can put in goals in bunches if you have a lapse.

No Jack Smith. The Perbix, Warner and Motzko line had all five goals, and if I had to guess, they spent 60%, if not more, of the time on the ice. Cathedral rode those horses last night.

Thursday, January 30
St. Cloud 4 at Alexandria 0
Breckenridge/Wahpeton 6 at Prairie Centre 3
Cathedral 8 at Monticello 1
Fergus Falls 1 at River Lakes 4
Detroit Lakes 2 at Wadena-Deer Creek 3

Surprised by the St. Cloud/Alexandria score. I wasn't at the game, but I thought getting Caleb Strong back would have added some punch back into the lineup. The Cardinals played well against Cathedral on Monday and River Lakes on Tuesday, so maybe three games in four days got to them? If that is the case, the Cardinals have four games next week. This loss most likely cost the Cardinals a share of the CLC titles (St. Cloud only has one conference game left against Fergus Falls).

Also surprised at the spread of the Cathedral/Monticello game. The Moose took it to the Cardinals in Alexandria, and Alexandria gave Cathedral fits. So, I thought the score would have been closer.

I guess that is what I get for thinking about what may happen based on comparative scores.

The actual formula is not published as it is intellectual property of it's creator. The standings can be found at the Minnesota-Scores website.

I am not 100% sure what sections use it for hockey. I know most Football Sections and a majority of the Basketball Sections use it. Is it perfect? No, but most coaches in those sports have agreed to use it as it is better than any smoke filled back room dealings.

Yeah: there are NO PLEASING some people when it comes to determining section rankings. If you go with a straight coaches rankings system or some other polling system, there is certainly room for bias. And if you go with computerized ranking system, people will complain "well what about the eye test?"

Having sat in on those coaches meeting in other sports for seedings back when I was coaching, I saw coaches trying to figure out how to work the seedings (lobbying) to get their team the easiest path in the tournament rather than ranking based on results.

I am all for computerized rankings. They use the Pairwise in college hockey to select the at large teams to the NCAA tournament, and every team has a general idea at the beginning of the year what they need to do to get in.
