Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
The only thing that will top thurs and fri mayhem is to see spuds go 3-0 and take down EP at noon.
Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
Westy...I heard a wild rumor (or maybe I dreamed I ate one of knivens brownies today & then promptly took a nap & had a vision) that if the lunch pail 2 yr JV veteran seniors on DE upset Andover this year...that the Huskies hockey team will be contracted back into Anoka. They’ll then wear Maroon jerseys with black trim & gold numbers and be known as the Black Cloud Tornadoes Ah, ya know, hopefully they take 7AA & this awful rumor (bad dream) is rendered immaterial

Way to get to all tournaments this week! Add another year of teams to your encyclopedic hockey mind
Anything is possible this year ......
But I made a sworn promise to some Andover friends at Thursday’s game that I’d next see them in St Paul in March , so got to stick with Coach Manney and the boys this year , over the Deast upstarts .

Moorhead leads EP 2-0 with 9 left in first
2-0 end of first
2-1 with 3 left in 2nd
2-1 after 2 , Sogs 23-13 eagles
Still 2-1 with 8 Left in 3rd . Sogs approx 35 to 15
Eagles tie it with 6 remaining
Spuds go on PP
Overtime!
Spuds win it!!
Incredible 3-0 run by Spuds in their last trip to the metro until the X in March .
Will Karl move WBL up to No. 1. ???
Spuds No. 2?

Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
East-Champlin has been postponed. I'm on the couch with a streaming marathon.
Impressed by Moorhead's showing over EP today. They don't have overwhelming depth, but play smart D, have a potent top line, and Hodges was on his game. They'll certainly be the biggest winners of the week, though I'm not even going to try to rank them all until I have more scores in today. Crazy, crazy week in a season of incredible parity.

The separation between EP, Andover, and White Bear isn’t much. I think you almost have to put WBL at 1. I think EP is 2 and Andover is 3. EP ahead because quality of opponent in the loss is greater (Moorhead over Minnetonka), but EP barely squeaked by Chaska and tied STA, so if someone flipped EP/Andover at 2 and 3 you would get no argument from me.

Orono up 2-0 over Greenway after one
Dominating period for the Spartans, though I missed the shot count.
3-2 Orono after two
Much better period for Greenway. Troumbly scored with 16 seconds left to close the gap to one.
Troumbly on the PP early in the 3rd, tied 3-3
Orono responds quickly to go back up 4-3
Another PP goal for Greenway to tie things up at 4
Final: 6-5 Orono
Wow, what a wild finish! Orono wins it with less than 1 second left, on a terrible angle shot that hit Wright on the back of a leg and bounced in. Greenway had just tied the game with 20 seconds left on a PP goal from Trboyevich.

Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
Conveniently enough, Andover travels up 94 to tangle with the Spuds Tuesday night. It’s funny to think that just last week Moorhead tied STMA and struggled to pull away away from Greenway, and now they are playing like a juggernaut.
Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
If this doesn’t give Hodges a good push into the Brimsek finalists , I don’t know what would
Gives up only 4 goals facing approx 110 Sogs in three consecutive day games on the road , including high pressure 2 OTs against top opponents . Incredible

Orono 6, Greenway 5. Orono scored as time expired. Great game. Raiders got out shot 18-5 in the first period but the game was even after that. Greenway played short handed. Lost a defenseman last night and Vekich did not return about midway in the second period. They played with three defensemen and a line and a half. How they were able to come back from a three goal deficit and two one goal deficits to tie the game is something. Ben Troumbly scored a poweplay goal exactly like the one against Mahtomedi. That kid does not get enough recognition. He made play after play today. Good weekend for Greenway. Beat Delano and gave Orono all they could handle.

The Spuds were definitely running on fumes in the third period. Fortunately they took advantage of the EP turnover behind their net and ended it early.WestMetro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 12:31 pm Moorhead leads EP 2-0 with 9 left in first

graider...good to get a report from someone who apparently was there. Didn't know how short-handed they were & to give Orono a dogfight like that was as you say, something. the game run-down on the Hub bears that out. It's a shame to end the game on kind of a cheap goal but that's the way it goes. They can take it out on Hibbing next week!greenwayraider wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 5:24 pm Orono 6, Greenway 5. You're right about Troumbly, a natural-born rink rat if ever there was one.
Maybe we'll see you at one of these games.
Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
It was crazy looking at the Greenway bench when the feed panned over there. Just the backup goalie and a handful of skaters. I was really impressed by how they fought back from that early deficit, as the game looked like it was going to get out of hand.greenwayraider wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 5:24 pm Orono 6, Greenway 5. I agree with your assessment of Troumbly. He was a workhorse, and Trboyevich also had a nice game.

To further mess with Karl’s math , Tonka Beats BSm 3-1

On YouTube by Up North Hockey. They usually do one game per week, give or take. I found it through the Watching Cal Puck website listings.raidergrad72 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:41 pmHey stang,Stang5280 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:09 pmIt was crazy looking at the Greenway bench when the feed panned over there. Hastings 3
So St Paul 2
I don’t think anyone shoots more and scores less.....or sees more hot goalies, I am not sure which.
At any rate at 8-1 with no losses to an AA team I give them the new number 1. (You could make any of 20 teams number 1 at this point)

It’s nice to see Hastings (be) relevant again (the past couple years) My oldest son, we opened the season against Hastings all 3 years (06, 07, 08) & I really liked watching the games in their wood roofed arena.goldy313 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 11:14 pm Hastings 3

Re: Games Saturday 12/28/19
Being #1 is a bit tongue in cheek......
They are relevant again which is good and in my humble opinion they should be left in 1AA as they are demographically and geographically more related to the other outstate 1AA teams than Lakeville nowadays.
New Prague should be there too, these are among the smallest AA schools in terms of enrollment, all 5A football schools, all outstate. Hang on to one North and one South outstate AA section.
