Also the other 1982 semi WB Mariner vs Hibbing. Doesn't look to be the entire thing but quite a bit of it. WB's best run ever. Couldn't find the final, but they lost anyway to Edina 6-0 LOL.

Enjoy.

Listed this before somewhere. Probably the best defense I can recall in their own zone (Centennial). Doesn't ever get tired watching IMO.

PS- miss the combo of Lou and Wally. Great stuff.

And I was so Bummed!

EGF had a great team that year, had a 3 - 1 lead on Jefferson in the 3rd in the quarterfinals and blew it. :(

Still enjoying the rabbit hole this post has sent me down. YouTube recommends other posts/videos, seen a few completely foreign teams from foreign eras, and some nostalgic games from the last 10-20 years that I was actually at. All of which, very cool to have people sharing these.

I’ve got a few games on VHS from a few years back (‘01, with commercials), I don’t see them posted already, 1. Can anybody post any game, they won’t get taken down? 2. How difficult is it to transfer VHS to digital? I’ve never looked into that technology before. But would like to share what I have with others like me out there, if anybody else might enjoy it. You guys know anything about that?

Was that the OhNo year? Maybe it was Ono. I have no idea how the kid spelled his name. I just remember the announcers going wild with "Oh No its Ono"

15 minutes of highlights. Fun back-and-forth game. That one sticks out probably more than any other 80s game for me. After the 3rd OT the crowd booed because they suspended play to get the late game B'ville/Bemidji going. So Jefferson won the next morning. Crazy how well Moran played in the pipes. A combination of playing outta his head and wondering why Tonka couldn't score. They were really dominating Jefferson in the OTs. Although I'm sure the X is a much better facility, for sentimental reasons I still prefer the Civic. That star-shaped pattern on the ceiling always intrigued me. I loved the standup goaltending too. You'd never do that today, but it was fun at times seeing the goalie go waaaaaaay out there to cut off the angle LOL. Also the long pants from the early 80s was a high for me in terms of fashion. Burnsville would beat Jefferson 4-1 in the semis, but I remember people going nuts because Burnsville beat em something like 10-0 in the regular season only to lose 2-1 to them the next time.

Ugh, the Copper-alls were hideous. Its like looking at a 1973 photo of your Mom in bell bottoms. (Or in my case, my older sisters.) I think Edina was the only team that did not adopt them.

OMG Bell bottoms. I was a straight leg jeans guy until I moved to the Cities in '72. Bought myself a pair of wide plaid bell bottoms from Lancers in Dinkytown. Thought I was a big shot on campus with those. 🙄🙄😟

Love the fashion comments. Raidergrad, if there are any pictures of you in those pants I'm afraid you won't be able to run for any elected office.

I've got a whole bunch of games on video, both VHS and DVD, plus some newer ones in a video format (.mts) that would require conversion to a more universal format. I'd love to share them with you all, but the amount of time it would take for me to figure out how to get them into a format that YouTube would accept and uploaded makes it unlikely I'll be doing that anytime soon.

There is also the issue of copyright, some of the videos and DVDs that I have were purchased from whatever entity the MSHSL had contracted to sell them. As I recall, the available games at that time (mid-00s) only went back to early '90s, so earlier games may be outside any copyright restrictions, but who knows. Ideally, the MSHSL would contract with someone to set up a site with all available video and provide streaming access for minimal cost per game. My holy grail is any games from Bemidji's 1972-1974 run at the state tourney, that was the team that made me a hockey fan.

Over the last 20 years or so when I've been trying to record games, one that's stood out for me and doesn't get a lot of mention, is the South St.Paul-Breck matchup in the Class A 2004 semifinals featuring Breck's high powered offense with Blake Wheeler, Jordan Fulton, Robbie Dee against South St.Paul's Stalock brothers. I watched this again recently and Alex Stalock played out of his mind but came up short in a heartbreaker. A quick search of YouTube doesn't bring this one up, hmm, maybe I'll try to upload that one...

I like the leg pants. They might have not been practical, but I thought it brought some class to the game. 8)

One of the things that led to the demise of the Cooperalls was the fact that the Philadelphia Flyers wore black Cooperalls and goalies complained that they couldn't see the puck so the NHL eventually banned black Cooperalls.

Haha. If the players wore bell bottoms the wind resistance on a breakaway would stop ' em at the blue line every time! 👍😄

1987 Kennedy vs Greenway semi. 4-2 final.

3-1 Kennedy after 1st. Jason Miller ended up with 6 goals or so for the tourney. He had a strong slapper. Going into the 3rd Greenway was really taking it to them, but goalie Chris Lund made a number of quality saves to shut the door. Although percentage wise it wasn't wise, but I really enjoy the stand up goaltending. The kick out save and when they'd come really far out to cut the angle were pretty fun. :) Plus it will never be the same without the clear boards. :(

I believe that was Stolp in goal for Greenway. He played for the Gophers.

It was Jeff Stolp. They also had Ken Gernander, along with Kris Miller, who played at UMD. Gernander & Jason Miller would be teammates losing on that same ice 2 years later in the OT classic vs. Harvard.

I'm guessing that's one thing we will NEVER see again: Kennedy vs. Greenway on a March Friday night in St. Paul. Kennedy had some powerful clubs in the 80s/early 90s.

I'm fairly sure that was Stauber in goal during the 88/89 season.

Yes but the goalie question was for a Greenway vs. Kennedy game a few years earlier and not the Gophers in '89.
