My heart says Hill-Murray. They won in the regular season with a stellar performance from Nick Pierre. In games he shows up in, Hill usually wins. When he's held down and quiet, they tend to not have enough goals to win.

My head says Moorhead lost the first one in an even matchup, so this is their turn. And I still think they may win it all.

Interesting one - the two top goalies in the state

In late Dec , Hodges on the road at PL held 3 decent teams to a total of just a couple goals I recall . If this kid gets that hot again...

Should be a great game, with likely the best villian/hero scenario in AA (private v northern). Two perennial X teams. Two teams with a lot more championship game losses than wins #-o

HM 1
Moorhead 0

Why not with these goalies!

Go against the Tradition Rich Metro East at your own peril, only TRME Conference teams and conspiring officials have taken them out so far.

One of my favorite HM v Moorhead games of all time. How the heck this Moorhead team didn't win this game I don't know. They wouldn't have beaten Jefferson (it was the year they went undefeated). I remember, I was at the xmas tourney, pretty sure it was at the Met Center and Moorhead played Jefferson and it was something like an 8-0 game in the 3rd period. Then Moorhead scored their only goal and I got up and did the sieve chant. Which it turned out the Hill section was also the Jefferson section, so there were some stares coming back my way. Anyway, fun trip down memory lane...

Anyone have a quick rundown of players to watch on Moorhead? Haven’t had chance to watch them yet.

Have watched Hill-Murray play twice this year “. Man is 7 a fun player to watch! Only a sophomore. Kid can fly

Or, for the lazy, here's the copy-paste version for this game:

# 5 HILL-MURRAY VS. #4 MOORHEAD

8:00 Thursday

-Two Tourney bluebloods meet in the nightcap in a battle that includes solid defenses and the state’s two best goaltenders. Hill won a late regular season meeting 4-3. They’ve split their four previous Tourney meetings, with the Spuds taking a 2017 quarterfinal 4-2. Hill leads the all-time series 17-11.

Hill-Murray (19-6-3, #7, 1-seed in 4AA)

State appearances: 30 (last in 2018)

Championships: 3 (1993, 1991, 2008)

Key section win: 3-2 over #23 White Bear Lake

-The Pioneers weren’t always the most consistent team this season, but they come in with plenty of talent and boast a strong record against Tourney entrants. Sophomore Nick Pierre (7) is their star up front, and Charlie Strobel (27) also helps carry the load; Matthew Fleishhacker (14), Henry Eischen (6), and Dylan Godbout (17) give them some scoring depth across two lines. Their biggest strengths are in back, where Joe Palodichuk (2) had a very productive season and is supported by a deep, steady defensive corps. Brimsek finalist Remington Keopple (1) has the best numbers of any goalie in the Tourney. Their key will be generating enough offense to break a 7-game Tourney losing streak that dates back to the 2013 title game.

Moorhead (21-5-1, #3, 1-seed in 8AA)

State appearances: 17 (2 in a row)

Key section win: 3-2 over 3-seed Roseau

-The steady Spuds may not have the depth of Andover or the star power of Eden Prairie, but they are a well-built team across the board. They continue their recent tradition of dominant top lines with the trio of Cullen Gess (14), Caden Triggs (27) and Carter Johnson (10), while Michael Overbo (19) gives their goal-scoring punch some depth. The Spuds do have some star power in back: Mr. Hockey finalist Luke Gramer (3) runs things from the blue line and Hudson Hodges (31) is a Frank Brimsek Award finalist. They’re liable to get outshot by some of the deeper, better-skating teams in this field, but they’re built to withstand some of that, and if they can impose their style on opponents, they have a shot at a deep run.

We really need a bracket where they can meet in the championship game. Kind of like Buffalo and the Vikings. Someone has to win...

After 2012 & 2013 both runner-up finishes for Hill and I said the exact same thing. Now of course I miss those days, and HM hasn't exactly had much luck in the tourney since then.

If WBL could just win two games at state and get into the finals vs Moorhead that would be nice.

A scenario such as this would cause a glitch in the matrix where the game went into eternal 0-0 overtime which created a warp zone in the universe that the earth got sucked into. To pit WBL & Moorhead in a final is to challenge the hockey Gods themselves. It’s blaspheme, and I will hear no more of it.

Well, the Cubs won a World Series recently and the world didn't come to an end as I feared it would; however, if WBL were to win a first round game and Moorhead a championship AND all this in the same tourney, I truly do believe the world would flip on its side and we would enter a warp zone whirling vortex from which only an Edina [shudder] championship could make things right again. Hmm, not sure I like the idea of Edina saving the world...
It's hard to win when you always lose.

Moorhead had their shot last year. Unfortunately their best player decided to leave early.
