Yep, add Alexandria to the list. Ian Resch has stepped down. Some pointed comments about kids going to play juniors for a few games before the high school season starts.

I may, or may not, have known this for a few weeks, but did not want to post it until it was pubic. Ian has done a ton for hockey in Alexandria. He was a huge contributor to the youth program over the years and did a great job taking the high school program to the next level. Wish him the best. I have heard that there are multiple quality candidates who have already expressed interest. With a really good feeder program, a great school district and a great community, this is a really attractive position.

I would agree, he has done a lot for the whole hockey program in Alexandria. Of course, I may be a little biased as he is an All American player from Bemidji State!

It will be interesting to see who they get as candidates. The feeder program is strong, and will a move to AA be a future possibility?

Could be, but it might not be by choice. They're right up against the enrollment cutoff, so is Mahtomedi.

Most attractive opening to date and will likely draw a lot of candidates.

1) I feel really old when head coaches around age 30 are being hired.

2) That is a tough gig in that section and being one of the smallest AA schools.

And I’m a lot closer to that number than 30. I was more trying to say that young whippersnappers landing head coaching gigs makes me feel old. But I guess the olden days were probably even worse in that regard, when many head coaches were hired almost straight out of college.

Interesting comments. A coach can say the same about a player that plays Elite League, USHL, NAHL, Fall Tier I, Blades, or anything else. It's like he'd prefer they NOT play fall hockey and be content with a 25 game season.

I don’t think Ian was against fall hockey. I think he felt some of his players didn’t adjust back to the HS game when the season started. Weather that be on ice play, mouths/language, or attitude during practice/games/locker room.

Has anybody heard any names being thrown around as candidates for Alex job?

I look forward to the lists delineating fall hockey options that are appropriate and problematic.

I hear there are a few local youth non-parent coaches who are thinking of applying. All very talented. Haven't heard anyone from out of town doing so yet. I am not going to share any names because, as of last weekend, I don't think it was officially posted yet. I know two of the guys pretty well and they are great coaches that are eager to help the program out.

And... The Next One is pretty much right from what I have seen and heard regarding Ian. He has a specific brand of hockey he likes to play and I imagine the fall hockey did create some habits (good or bad) that didn't fit what he was trying to coach.

Nothing earth shattering in this article on the Alexandria coaching search. But it is a hockey article, I guess! LOL!

Man, I wish him luck with that rebuilding project. It sounds like True did some good things on the girls’ side, and it would be nice to see Lourdes at least become a viable program again.

Chisago Lakes is a decent gig, and they return a solid core from last season. It seems like they would draw some good younger candidates.

Maybe not the best adjective there, but it would seem to be an attractive job for an up-and-coming coach. Given that Chisago has a decent roster and some semblance of recent success, but is far from a traditional power, I picture someone building up their coaching chops there. But I certainly could be wrong, and they could either land an established coach or someone who builds deep roots there.
