Let me guess the Hayes family just happened to move into Eden Prairie according to the slimy northern Lee Smith.
If you think Lee Smith is "slimy" for getting a transfer or two a year, what do you think of the private schools St Thomas, Hill Murray, Holy Family, Blake, Benilde, Cretin and Breck recruiting hard each year? What would your word be for these coaches? Just curious.
I’m not going to vouch for the recruiting practices of the other private schools, but it is rare for Blake, Breck, and SPA to admit students after freshman year. As a prospective student, you are generally limited to entering at the K, 5 and 9 levels. Yes, these schools obviously recruit players, but they aren’t poaching kids from other HS programs.
You have to be kidding me! Are you serious? They are not poaching players? What world do you live in?

I can speak with confidence and first hand knowledge that Lechner is not one going out to youth games and making calls to get kids to play there. The school and it's tradition recruit itself for the most part, and a lot of kids in the east suburbs and west WI see it as somewhere they can get the exposure and such to advance on after high school, and not their current programs. Not saying they are perfect at all, but as a general rule I know Bill is a man of high character and isn't one making a lot of side deals and such. Some of those other schools you mentioned, definitely happening with the coaches in charge there.

I can tell you for a fact that none of the players on Breck’s roster over the past several years have transferred into the school after 9th grade. I am nearly positive that is the same case for Blake as well, even during their recent run of success (feel free to provide counter examples). Of course these schools are “poaching” players, but they are legitimately enrolling at the beginning of their high school careers, not transferring in afterward. That is the distinction I was making.

Edit: Another poster informed me that Blake has taken a few transfers from other programs (one of whom was not playing varsity). So I stand corrected on that point, but we are not talking about a large number of players coming in on an annual basis.

So give some examples of where the three schools mentioned have poached a player that had played varsity hockey at another high school?

Actually it's a different CL, same birth year and also college committed, but not the household name that the Lucius boys are.

The St Thomas Academy goalie last season was brought in from Chicago. TE needed a goalie. That is just one of many many transfers over the years to private schools. Do you think the Benilde coach would say no to a transfer already at another public high school?

Your comment of "You have to be kidding me! Are you serious? They are not poaching players? What world do you live in?" was in response to a post regarding SPA, Breck and Blake, not STA or Benilde, so I was just looking for some examples of SPA, Breck or Blake "poaching" players that would have caused your outrage. I will let others weigh in on your STA and Benilde comments.

Rails Hockey. Posters have not been shy in the past about stating the names of those who are rumored to transfer, or not return to their school for whatever reason. Who is this high end kid rumored to be heading to Hermantown?

Okay, I didn't know if it was a good idea to be throwing kid's names out there until you know for sure. West Metro referred to an unresolved 218 situation with a lot of moving parts, which is exactly what this is. So I'm assuming he heard the same thing but maybe he's talking about something else. In a normal year we would all know by now but because of the uncertainty with the High School Season I don't know if they've made a final decision. This kid has other options. I have not been told that they've rented the Apartment yet and they have until the start of school or even later to do that. We will all know soon enough but at this point it is still officially a rumor.

For the record the Cloquet Goalie referred to by another poster was a Senior last year so he's done and I'm not referring to a Goalie. It would not surprise me at all to see Cloquet's Junior to be Goalie end up there since there was a lot of chatter about that last year. But I have not heard that.

Maybe I am confused but the last of Pat's credibility is on the line if he doesn't welcome a transfer player? The Hermantown folk are picking and choosing who they allow to attend their school now?

If Breck & SPa are recruiting kids, they aren't doing it very well.

It will be interesting to see what the MSHSL makes of transfers due to online learning. Can they punish a kid for going from a district that will only have online learning to a school that has in person school?

Rochester Public Schools are online learning only through at least October 30, Rochester Lourdes is going ahead with normal school. Does the MSHSL make a transfer from Rochester Public to Lourdes sit out when there is a clear distinction between learning?

I've been wondering the same thing myself, especially for the younger kids who need a parent to stay home with them. In the process the parent(s) are prevented from going to work and supporting the family financially. I don't think the MSHSL should impose unnecessary restrictions on parents who need the income (in part to pay for their kids' social and athletic development from in-person school).

I don't think the MSHSL takes academics into these discussions and decisions. I have a personal experience, where we were moving from a decent sized district, with lots of class offerings, to a small district with more limited choices. My student was at the HS level (9-12), so I inquired to see if he could enroll in a district close to where we were moving, since the family was moving and since that district had similar offerings to what we were moving from. It was explained to me, that class offerings or how school is done would not be an exception to transfer rules. We would need to reside in the district that with the school we wanted to attend, or sit out the year and play JV.

With that experience, my guess is, they will not care if a school is distance only so the HS kid transfers to a school that is in person.

You mention the "younger kids" that need a parent home...if people have their kids transfer before they enter 9th grade, there isn't a transfer rule that applies. So an 8th grade stud hockey player could open enroll before 9th grade and not have to do the family move or other ways. (I'm assuming that rule changes a little if a 7th or 8th grader participated in varsity sports, but I haven't looked into those specifically)

Galatz to Hermantown, pending whether we have a High School Season or not. If it happens it will be their best transfer since Samberg.

The samberg comparison is a stretch. Given he had always gone to school at Hermantown and had played almost his entire pre college career there. His father never played hockey (played basketball)and given he was at Hermantown far in advance of the current run, I can assure you that one has nothing to do with hockey.
