WestMetro wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2020 10:59 pm Imho parents , kids and even leagues at this point are just protecting all their options all the way thru sept and Oct . In some cases kids protecting Juniors and HS Option, in others cases with Tier 1 and HS option, in other cases private leagues and HS . In some cases , more than 2 . And it won’t be too long before some will protect with a Minn Hockey option also

Some absolutely crazy Individual kid situations that would be impossible to believe in other years

Meanwhile rinks are open and kids playing hockey

And as I said in a different thread , there will be hockey this season , just a question of which leagues , who is sanctioning , and who ends up where . But I’m pretty sure there won’t be a 100,000 spectator Trny at the X in March

"West".... agree completely with you again. This is becoming a regular occurrence...

Thanks Wise ! Common ground and respect is possible ! Next : lets get together to mediate peace in the Mideast ? 🤣

Hearing a 50+/-point scorer who I saw at the July summer high school festival is considering an early departure to a midwest Nahl team . Home school forum rep to clarify when any announcement is made / when time is appropriate . As with everyone else , I’m sure things are very fluid . School was not on my calendar frequently , but I did see them once each of last two seasons

Really? No offense but a whole bunch of school districts just postponed in person learning due to an inadequate amount of time to prepare (mid March until September is not enough). How did you miss this? Teachers Unions being paid full wage to not work was all of a sudden going back to work? The pay never changes, getting paid to not work = the same to work. Go figure MEA chooses to not work.

What does this rant have to do with Early Departures? 🙄

If you are referring to Griswold he was drafted by St. Cloud, made the team, and was not named a captain at Holy Angels. While not necessarily a formal announcement it was understood by all that he does not plan on playing another season of HS Varsity.

Terrific kid who will do well whatever path he chooses.

Based on this article, we can now add Jake Ratzlaff to the early departure list, as pretty much expected

Yeah, that one was pretty much a foregone conclusion once football season was pushed back to the spring. With the USHL season also starting late, Ratzlaff may end up not playing football at all this year, which may tip his hand as to his college decision.

Or he may leave the USHL to play football, which would tip it the other way. And if he’s as good a football player as many say he is, he could play a full season in the USHL and skip HS football in the spring, and still end up playing football over hockey in college..

After two USHL teams declare they are taking the 2020-2021 season off, every other USHL team receives about 3 new players who would have been on a USHL roster this year. 3 isn’t a ton, but could certainly have a trickle effect on some bubble players hoping to make the early jump this year.

What a PLEASE BAN ME Madison has been for a long time now. Just speculating but they are either folding or building from the ground up, which may be the best choice.

The ripple effects will be huge. Springfield Blues also announced they are taking the season off. So 3 NAHL & 2 USHL teams for a total of over 100 players not on no-tuition teams. Since HS players are the younger ones it is those kids at risk for not sticking.

Look for one more NAHL team to take the season off, Janestown. Lots of NAHL teams going into training camp with 35-40 players

Jr hockey trickle-down in a normal year is crazy, this year will take that to extreme level and that's unfortunate for the players who will inevitably get caught up in that. :(

This is true, but on the flip side one thing to consider is the bizarre rule in the USHL that each team needs at least three underage (03 and 04 this year) players on their roster at all times. It’s the recent high school grads who are looking to have a spot on a team that will be the hardest hit IMO.

The Caps have indeed been a dumpster fire pretty much since the start of their reboot. Sadly, Suter has run that franchise into the ground. Fortunately for his sake, Carson Bantle escaped and is up at Tech. I imagine that much of the Madison roster will be left out in the cold when it comes to staying in the USHL. The news articles all put the blame for the cancelled season on Dane County restrictions, but I don’t imagine the “leadership” of the Caps was fighting too hard to play.

Thanks. I knew there was some rule but not sure exactly how many. Yes, will have an effect. Still, we just learned there are six fewer total spots in the league.

Dane County won’t let the Capitals play. They also will not let any high school in the county play football. In all seriousness how will they let the University if Wisconsin play? I don’t think anyone can actually fight Dane County.

Yet an hour away Wisconsin Dells has tournaments of just about every sport played in the US.

Cedar Rapids rink was damaged so heavily by the storm it is unsafe. That is why they are not playing.

Per Wikderness NAHL preview, it indeed looks like Galatz will be spending the full season with them.

As hinted at earlier, Noah Griswold of Holy Angels appears to have departed for the St. Cloud Norsemen.

Also, Jackson Hallum is listed on the Green Bay Gamblers roster, so perhaps he is skipping senior season at STA after rising so quickly in the draft?

Can't blame anyone who has that opportunity, in particular this year.

Hearing we may have to add Hogg to early departure list . Can an Edina forum member confirm?
I'd venture to guess he is leaving. That league doesn't draft HS eligible kids that high unless they get confirmation that he would leave.
Always subject to change for a variety of reasons, but I've heard he's leaving.
This looks to be confirmed
