Ratzlaff previously stated in a news article (see earlier in thread) that he was playing for the Gamblers. Strangely, however, I see that he is listed on the Rosemount football roster. Perhaps that signals a change of heart?

Stang - he is playing for Rosemount Football. After they are done - he is playing for GB. He won't be back for hockey at RHS.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:19 pmRatzlaff previously stated in a news article (see earlier in thread) that he was playing for the Gamblers. Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
Thanks for the clarification, BP. That makes sense. Being a two sport recruit is already complicated enough to juggle, but the flip-flop with the football season makes things even more difficult. It looks like Rosemount will be losing a good chunk of their talent to the USHL.

Yeah, Ratzlaff, Levendowski and Stramel, that's quite a hit to the roster.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 1:08 pmThanks for the clarification, BP. That makes sense. Article in the Rink Live this week . Joe Miller :
“I’m planning on staying in Chicago,” he said this week. “With high school, there’s so much uncertainty about the state tournament, and with an 18-game schedule, I think this is best for me. I’m ready to take the next step. I love it down here, I love the guys, and the coaches are great. So I think it’s best for me to stay in the USHL for the year.”

Good for him, hard to argue with anything he stated.WestMetro wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 9:16 amArticle in the Rink Live this week . Joe Miller :

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
USA hockey Tier 3 is playing 40-50 game schedule. The Rochester Grizzlies play 8 games in October and have 8 scheduled in November so far. Good gracious why play 18 games in high school when you can 50 in Tier 3?

The fall leagues close the gap quite a bit, but I hear you to an extent.

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
My initial response was going to be that the Tier 3 has legal adults (18+) playing, but that isn't necessarily true. They have 16 and 17 year old kids playing as well.
Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
There might be a couple of kids that Play Juniors until Dec 1st, come back tor what ever season we have, and then go back after sections/state. They could get in 15ish games Oct, play 18-24 games in HS, and then 10-15 games after, Not ideal, but still get in 40-50 games.

Outside of top high end talent, Junior teams generally do not encourage this. I imagine with the uptick in talent with several programs not playing, it would make this more difficult in Covid times. I can see it playing out if our HS kids make these Junior teams they may stay vs a normal year. Especially with the uncertainty around State.
Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
This is garbage. Look at the schedules posted. The MSHSL is not offering anything. JR Gold will be a better league.
Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
With no disrespect to Jr Gold and the Metro League, it will not be better than the HS games that all teams are rebuilding for this season.

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
Goldy, don't forget that most of the Tier III kids pay at least $3,000 to play, and as much as $6,000. That tends to limit the number of kids/parents who will play.ironranger2 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 9:45 amMy initial response was going to be that the Tier 3 has legal adults (18+) playing, but that isn't necessarily true. Max Burkholder

The podcast mentioned a next group of kids whose decisions, high school vs elsewhere, were probably still waiting for further info/developments from MSHSL, MDH, School Boards, Etc

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
For those that were in USHL camps, they have released their rosters for the season. Several kids who were in camps are not on the rosters, indicating they are probably headed back to HS
Re: Early Departures 2020-2021
Here are the USHL early departures I could find on a preliminary scan through the rosters. Chicago’s roster does not appear to be final yet, and they could have a few given the number of Minnesotans on the roster. Still, this is a fairly low number of early departures compared to how many kids were in camps.

Congrats to all!
Especially noteworthy Tucker Ness , very few had this on their radar screen six months ago

I am wondering if Ratzlaff is looking at spring enrollment for football if he isn’t playing for Green Bay.

Pandemic “push down” impact is very notable this year.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:55 pmHere are the USHL early departures I could find on a preliminary scan through the rosters. NAHL early departures
Bismarck
Jon Bell
Chase Beacom
Magicians
Lleyton Roed
Wilderness
Christian Galatz
Joey Pierce (before & after?)
New Jersey
Louden Hogg
St. Cloud
Noah Griswold
Again, lower than I expected. As InThePipes said, there is a definite “push down” effect this season. I noticed a lot of 2000 birthdates on the rosters, including a number of D1 commits. Things are tough out there in the junior landscape.
