Re: Games Friday 3-5-21
Watch #18 Dodge County at #4 Little Falls tonight at 7:15pm. Plus listen to an interview with former Flyer and All-time State Scorer Ben Hanowski during the first intermission. https://youtu.be/EaaE-cc3aMM
Re: Games Friday 3-5-21
Detroit Lakes vs Crookston has been canceled, as has the Pirates’ game with Fergus Falls tomorrow.
Re: Games Friday 3-5-21
After one
Dodge County 2, Little Falls 1
Shots 11-7 LF
Both goals by Lamb; Flyers might, you know, want to keep track of him

Watching this one tonight, and I'm apparently cursed this week. Choppy and chippy, though at least this game has Brody Lamb.
Re: Games Friday 3-5-21
Final
Dodge County 3, Little Falls 2
Like Karl said above, a rather hideous display of hockey. Little Falls has just fallen flat on their faces since returning from Covid. Denfeld will destroy them tomorrow night if they play like this.
Apparently DC can beat the 1 or 2 seed in 6A, but loses to the 5 or 6 (Cathedral)?

About one minute in the first period was palatable. Otherwise it was hard to even pay much attention.karl(east) wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 9:14 pmWatching this one tonight, and I'm apparently cursed this week. Choppy and chippy, though at least this game has Brody Lamb.

Announcers curse?
Stang5280 on Sunday regarding Little Falls upcoming week.....” assuming Little Falls emerges unscathed”.
Tartan may roll a tired DC team tomorrow afternoon, but still a successful weekend for Dodge County. Maybe the first top 10 win a 1A team has had in a number of years.
Not a banner week for Class A hockey.

Re: Games Friday 3-5-21
Yeah, my attention was certainly wandering. Little Falls seemed more interested in beating up Lamb than scoring goals, and I was surprised how even this game was given that LF's MO otherwise has typically been dominating games but not scoring much. I haven't watched enough of the other 1A and 6A contenders to say much about what this game means, but at the very least, it seems safe to say that the gap between the eventual winners of 1A, 2A, 3A, 6A, and maybe even 5A will be much smaller than it usually is. Seeding the 4/5 game could actually be a serious debate this season.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 9:48 pmAbout one minute in the first period was palatable. To piggyback on what Karl pointed out......Dodge County by being an independent plays a schedule that allows for confusion in this year of provincial schedules. For better or worse 1A will be judged on what Dodge County does.
In a year of enigmas you have Dodge County; beats Mankato East and Little Falls but loses to Cathedral and Mayo.
If, somehow, Warroad, Hermantown, or Gentry do not make it to the state tournament (this year nothing is certain, you could lose or be shut down) seeding will be a complete crapshoot. As much as I can have a problem with QRF this might be the year to use it.

I was trying to think of this — 2 years ago Mankato West beat a top ten (at the time) Duluth Denfeld team. I don’t think Mankato East has any wins against the top ten recently although being Section 1A’s best team the last 3 years.goldy313 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 9:56 pm Announcers curse?

Yeah, I really whiffed on that statement. I have watched Little Falls a number of times this season, partially because the broadcasts are high-quality, and they have mostly looked impressive, aside from the Gentry blowout.goldy313 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 9:56 pm Announcers curse?

Some of the results this week have me reevaluating whether 6A is actually all that good… it is definitely one of the deepest sections, but none of the teams are close to the elite level. Between Alex being blasted by Rogers and LF likely to lose three straight games outside of the section, we may have been wrong as to the level of play within 6A.
I hate to say it, but Class A hockey has two very good teams this year, with most of the rest being a dumpster fire. Unless EGF can put things together, Warroad looks like the only real challenger to the top two. (Though Hermantown did look vulnerable against Rapids with some poor defensive play.)

Warroad needs to keep its best players on the ice more.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 12:46 pmYeah, I really whiffed on that statement. EGF needs more discipline.
Hermantown did not have their best player or at least best Dman versus Grand Rapids.
Gentry needs to prove itself against consistent quality team - not happening this year (not their fault) but playing their schedule does not challenge them enough. Likely not at all this year except for section final and perhaps state Semis.
