Re: Official Section Seedings
Per Karl (and a few others) on Twitter, here are teams whose seasons are done due to Covid:
Duluth East
Simley
Waconia
Apple Valley
Rochester Mayo
River Lakes
Shakopee
Farmington
North Branch
Hopefully that list does not continue to grow.

Maybe someone can clear this up.....
Why does Karl(East) say Farmington’s season is over? Their playoff game with Owatonna is on Farmington’s South Suburban Conference calendar, meaning someone at the school took the time to update it today.
Owatonna seems to think the game is on, so does 1AA, and Farmington by all I can find. In nearly all the other cases the schools listed have dropped out and are noted as such on the MSHSL website or the game is listed as a forfeit. That doesn’t seem to be the case with Farmington though.

It looks like you are correct. I just copied the list from Karl’s tweet, but perhaps it was just an assumption that Farmington would have to quarantine following the Shakopee positive test. That is typically the protocol, but who knows exactly what the timing and conditions were surrounding Shakopee’s situation.goldy313 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 2:37 pmMaybe someone can clear this up.....

Also, can each school district can choose to handle this how they want?Stang5280 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:19 pmIt looks like you are correct. Re: Official Section Seedings
Mankato East played Mayo on Thursday, Mayo had a positive Covid test Friday. That shutdown Mayo but obviously not East. So, I wondered, why is Farmington done but not East? It just didn’t seem right to me.

Each school district can handle it how they choose, so some may be allowed to play on while others would be shut down in those same circumstances, at least that's what I've been told, please correct me if someone has better information.

Add Wadena and Detroit Lakes to the season coming to an end because of Covid.

Confirmed that Farmington is okay. That situation evolved quickly.
Sounds like Ely may be done also.

Section 7A and 7AA on WDIO and streaming here:East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 12:19 pmWhat might we expect as far as live streaming section games? I don't want a bunch of posts about Class A section play-in games, just games of interest to most of us. (No disrespect to that Podunk/Swensenville - Johnson County West United 8 vs.9 match-up, I'm sure it will be a great game.)

$9.95 per game or $14.95 for both

Ely listed as a forfeit already on the hub and mshsl website. So they are confirmed done.karl(east) wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 10:32 pmConfirmed that Farmington is okay. That situation evolved quickly.

Northfield becomes the latest to bow out due to a positive Covid test, which gives Hastings a bye to the 1AA semifinals.

Too bad, as they had a pretty nice season.

Throwing this out for fun: Buffalo over Roseau isn't UNTHINKABLE as an 8 over 1 upset. Just sayin...

If there's a chance of an 1 v 8 upset, it's definitely this one. Buffalo played an incredibly difficult schedule, being the Lake conference. Edina, Tonka and EP twice to name a few. And they kept some of those games close-ishBrodziak Fan Club wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 6:43 pmThrowing this out for fun: Buffalo over Roseau isn't UNTHINKABLE as an 8 over 1 upset. Just sayin...
Buffalo is as good an 8-seed as you're gonna find in any section

Yep. They lost to Wayzata 2-1 10 days ago and Moorhead 3-1 on Saturday. I don't want it to happen though as I'd love to see the Rams back at state.BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 6:52 pmIf there's a chance of an 1 v 8 upset, it's definitely this one. Agreed. I'd love to see them back at State too. I've always had a soft spot for the Rams. Still remember Hill playing Roseau in 2008 State semis. I believe Roseau came in undefeated, seeded #1. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but that team had Aaron Ness on it. Mr Hockey 2008?Brodziak Fan Club wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 6:56 pmYep. Hill just rolled everyone that year on their way to the title, including the Rams. Anyway, neither here nor there. Just reminiscing.

Roseau was indeed 29-0 heading into that semifinal game. This was the first year I followed high school hockey more than casually. I had never seen Roseau play and totally bought into the mystique from this "team up north". I thought they were going to dazzle with their pond hockey artistry and the Pioneers absolutely punished them physically.
The next night Joe Phillipi shut out the "Fab 5" Hornet group, who were juniors at the time. Ryan Furne scored an absolutely crushing goal from the center line with one second left in the 1st period to put Hill up 2-0. The Hornets were relentless in the 2nd period, out-shooting HIll 15-4, but Phillipi stood tall. I remember feeling like the game was over heading into the 3rd even though it was only 2-0.
That was a fun HIll team. I know we've been over this, but they didn't really have a ton of D-1 talent. That team cemented Lechner's legacy as a great coach whose best teams are always tight-checking and physical.

1) That bizarre goal to the end first period. Must have taken a funny bounce, but still.
2) I swear I remember this, but maybe I’m totally wrong and my memory has betrayed me. I’m sure if there’s game tape out there it could be verified: the camera crews at the time were doing live look-ins to the lockers rooms at intermissions. They panned into the Hill locker room during the second intermission, and the entire Hill team was dancing and singing together to some song. Totally loose, 100% confident they had that game and the title in the bag. I recall being stunned at that and thinking to myself that they’re awfully confident! Of course they won that game 3-0 and the rest is history. But talk about a confident group going into the 3rd period of the championship game.

Oh man, that’s good stuff. Brings back some good memories. Thanks for re-sharing. I watched a little 3 minute highlight video of that Championship game on YouTube just now, while searching for the full game to verify my claim about the dancing. Edina had several point blank chances on Phillipi and he absolutely robbed them on several occasions. And they showed the mishap goal at the end of the first - puck handcuffed him and it squeaked under his arm pit.karl(east) wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 9:42 pmFigured I'd drop this now 3-year-old link in here to feed off the 2008 nostalgia: https://apatientcycle.com/2018/03/18/a- ... back-2008/

Ryan Furne, my favorite transfer from Tartan ever. He wasn't the most talented or fastest skater I ever saw, but man was he a winner.karl(east) wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 9:42 pmFigured I'd drop this now 3-year-old link in here to feed off the 2008 nostalgia: https://apatientcycle.com/2018/03/18/a- ... back-2008/
