EP and Tonka headed to OT tied 3-3
Skippers were hanging on for dear life at end of regulation
No penalties called all game until Tonka goes up 3-1. Minnetonka then gets three penalties called against them, with EP scoring on two of the three power plays. The second penalty against Tonka (the one in which EP didn’t score on power play) was baffling to put it charitably. No penalties on EP all game. I’m not happy if I’m Tonka. Not at all.

STA, Hill, Wayzata, EP, Andover, and Lakeville South is the AA field so far. Great field but not the most likeable bunch.

So assuming Maple Grove wins tomorrow night...you're probably going to have Wayzata and STA as unseeded teams. Ouch! Those are not easy outs

Not a fan of any of them. Gotta go Moorhead/Roseau. Then Maple Grove.

Andover takes a huge step towards defending their consolation title.

Wait. Maybe not. Never mind.

Don’t sleep on Andover. They just beat the team that beat your Pioneers :) Also, their only two losses of season were to Maple Grove, the second time by just a goal. They had a surprising tie late in season against Champlin, but other than that, their resume is pretty darn solid.

What's not to like about Wayzata? That's a hell of a team. They don't have wow star power, just waves of guys that are all good and are playing some great hockey.

Hill-Murray is just so good. Fleishacker & Palodichuk as good as any D pair in the state. So deep, which they showed in winning last season.

Eden Prairie is stocked with guys that will go on to play post-HS. Langenbrunner has quietly been awesome this year. Holt & Batchelder get their points. Mittelstadt is an early draft pick, and the real joy to watch is Jackson Blake who plays like a little kid at the park. Plus Brown is an excellent complement to any team.

Looks like a great field to me, and if you like hockey there's a lot to like so far. Didn't even mention the likely top seed. Cougars are one of those programs where this is their year. Not sure how long it will be or if they'll ever be a title contender again.
Be kind. Rewind.

I’m not a hater but having your ticket punched to State from an East Coast transfer. No respect for that. Especially if any of y’all had heard the interview with Lee Smith about what he loved most was they all started here from mites....sheesh it’s hard not to be a cynic.

I would prefer STMA represent 8AA. You know, same teams all the time and all that.

EP has been the more talented team all year, but it would have been nice if the refs made them earn it fully on the ice last night. I would question the last 2 penalties against Tonka and there were 2-3 opportunities during the came to call one for EP but sadly Team Transfer got all the breaks. Good team and they earned their seed, but that was a poor effort by the men in stripes.

EP's goalie looked terrible. And that isn't going to work at state. I could see MG lighting them up for 6 goals in the semis. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I didn't join in on the viewing of 2AA until it was 3-1 in the 2nd. Kind of have the same view as others. I don't remember Tonka having a super great scoring chance the whole time I watched; EP was coming at them. But I also agree that the penalties on Tonka in the 3rd were very iffy at best, especially their 2nd one, which as mentioned was the one EP actually didn't score on. Still is 2 minutes of special teams time though that is a factor in terms of flow.

I agree; I think the better team is moving on, but the stripes showed everyone that they were there. It didn't have any effect, but there was one absolute clear offsides on EP that the linesman just ignored. Even the announcers were chiming about it, who have always seemed pretty objective.

There's a good handful of EP kids that have grown up through it all, so you feel happy for them getting another trip back. But I completely understand why they are hated...

STA had one of their best if not their best team efforts last night. This one was pretty much all Cadets with even strength shot attempts ending up at 60-26 in favor of the Cadets. Rosemount had a few good shifts to start the second, but STA responded with 2 goals 33 seconds apart to put the icing on the cake. Best game of the year from STA's dmen.

If STA can bring a similar defensive performance to the tournament, they have the offensive firepower to make some noise next week.

Which is interesting, because I watched them twice play Hill and they played little to no defense at all. Like they sold out to be an offensive juggernaut. STA can score, the question is can they keep the better teams from scoring on them.

I disagree about the first matchup. Even strength shot attempts were 43-38 in favor of the Cadets. Hill capitalized off of 3 bad Cadet turnovers and a 5-on-3 goal, and I don't think this game was indicative of STA's dzone discipline.

The second game from Hill was easily the best opponent STA saw all year in my opinion (Saw both games vs EP). That coupled with STA's worst performance of the year led to the lopsided score.

STA's biggest blemish this year has been bad gap control and untimely pinching from their defensemen when they don't have support. If they can string together 3 games from their defensemen playing smart and safe hockey, I think they can compete with any team.

Yup, STMA is pretty well as much a perennial power as Roseau and Moorhead.

Yes they have been there s lot through out history.
But it’s been about 8 or so years and about another 5 before that.
Besides we ‘strongly dislike’ StMA.
