Class A Tournament Seeding
Obviously we will know more after tonight's games, but there is a potentially interesting situation looming. Let's first start out with the top three seeds, which are essentially locks in some order. I'll go out on a limb and assume Hermantown wins.
Scenario One: Gentry wins
1. Hermantown
2. Gentry
3. Warroad or EGF
Scenario Two: Mahtomedi and Warroad win
1. Hermantown
2. Warroad
3. Mahtomedi
Scenario Three: Mahtomedi and EGF win
1. Hermantown
2. Mahtomedi
3. EGF
Ok, now here's where things get interesting. There will be three teams vying for the 4 and 5 spots: Delano, Dodge County, and the 6A winner. That makes for a potentially great 4/5 game, and also means that one of those teams will be lurking as a nasty matchup for the #3 seed (let's be honest about the lack of a random draw). We could actually see an upset in the quarterfinals for the first time in a few years.
Does this sound plausible, and how do others think about how the seeding will play out?

Gentry is the best team in the class and should be the top seed.
Re: Class A Tournament Seeding
Except the final LPH poll had LF 7, DC 9, and Delano 12. The coaches’ seeding usually follows that poll closely. Thanks

Re: Class A Tournament Seeding
Kind of a weird situation in which Little Falls almost certainly has the 4th-best resume of all the entrants on paper, but has lost two the 1A entrant and the 5A entrant. And Delano might be playing the best hockey of anyone outside the big three right now. So Litch is really the only team that doesn't have some sort of case to be seeded. But, I think results should matter, so Delano has to pay some price for its early struggles, and Northern Lakes' schedule is just a bit too thin to allow for much of a comparison, so I'd put Little Falls and Dodge County in the 4/5 game. Wouldn't be shocked to see other outcomes, though.
It would've been a fun consolation bracket if there were a consolation bracket!

Agree, I was surprised that LF got the 4 seed. Does anybody know if this is Northern Lakes' first trip to state? Congrats to them!

Elliott turned out to be exactly right ((except the EGF substitution for Warroad). And even the draw among unseeded teams was truly random, as top seed Hermantown drew what would certainly be the #6 in a full ranking.
As Karl said, it’s too bad there isn’t a consolation bracket this year. Three of the four quarters are likely to be running time, and I would like to see a new entry like Northern Lakes get more than one game and leave on a more pleasant note.
Re: Class A Tournament Seeding
Northern Lakes had never even been to a section semifinal until this year! (The co-op started in 2006-07.) In fact, the two main schools in the cooperative, Crosby-Ironton and Pequot Lakes, never made a section semifinal, either.east hockey wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 1:54 pmYes, it is.
