Officials

Post by goldy313 » Sun Sep 05, 2021 1:07 am

In every sport the MSHSL is in dire straits when it comes to the number of officials. Please consider being an official in any sport, we provide the training and the mentoring to become an official. In football we get $95 a game plus mileage for a varsity game. ~$75 for an under varsity game. It is a good part time job.

Without officials games do do not happen.

If you love the game please consider giving back to the game and kids. We need your help!

Any questions please DM me or the MSHSL, we will get you in touch with people in your area to contact.

I know it doesn't help the current shortage for high schools but my kid started refereeing hockey this summer (pee wee and lower)...way better money that flipping burgers.

What are HS baseball umps going for these days? I used to do class A and B amateur baseball and got out when my kids schedule got crazy...thinking about getting back into it now that life is slowing down.

I do not know what baseball umpires make, I do know a couple of people who make their living officiating though. Baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, and football.

In my experience I take far, far less abuse in high school events at every level than I ever did at the youth level. Don’t let a bad experience at the youth level deter you from trying high school.

I've umpired 9th grade, B and JV softball for the past couple of years and get $70-75 per game depending on the school district. That's for a one man crew. I would guess for varsity, which uses two man crews, the plate umpire would get a bit more than that and the base umpire about $75, but I don't know for sure. I have to say the vast majority of softball coaches are cooperative and respectful. In the rare baseball games I've done, that's not as true.

Thanks for posting rates received. People need to know what they can make.

I just got 72.50 for a 9th grade football game that took <2 hours, It is not about the money, but it helps.
