If Minnesota Had an Olympic Team

Post by The Exiled One »

FORWARD
Jake Guentzel – Brock Nelson – Brock Boeser
Anders Lee – Rem Pitlick – TJ Oshie
Derek Stepan – Travis Boyd – Kyle Okposo
Blake Lizotte – Ryan Poehling – Blake Wheeler
Zack Parise
Nick Bjugstad
Vinni Lettieri

DEFENSE
Alex Goligoski – Ryan McDonagh
Nate Schmidt – Justin Faulk
Erik Johnson – Nick Jensen
Nick Leddy
Brady Skjei
Ryan Lindgren

GOALIE
Jake Oettinger
Charlie Lindgren
Alex Lyon

• Most of the forwards are centers, so I had to move a few to LW
• Not a lot of depth up front but plenty on defense
• First four defensemen were easy picks but the third pair and all the reserves are interchangable with worthy candidates left home
• Goalie is even thinner than forward

Thoughts?

Possible others in the mix?

Justin Braun (older but still getting plenty of TOI with PHI)
Tyler Pitlick
Casey Mittelstadt (back from injury)
Justin Holl (not flashy but very steady, plenty of TOI and great on the PK)
K'Andre Miller (gotta love his size and playing a lot with NYR)

G is very weak indeed.

As a Bulldog fan I maybe add Mikey Anderson who has been on the LA #1 d pairing for over a year. Then Neil Pionk who I put ahead of most d on that list. Other than that list looks solid.

Pull Dustin Byfuglien out of retirement? Is he too far gone?

Good call. The list I was working off of didn’t list him because he was born in Nebraska. Definitely a Minnesotan. Definitely on the team.

Anderson, Holl, Braun, Perunovich, Miller all considered but defense is just too deep.

Tyler Pitlick just off the bubble. Mittelstadt could be an option.

Goalie position looking a little less thin…
