2022 Class A SF #1 seed Hermantown (27-2-0) vs #5 seed Alexandria (20-6-2)

#1 seed 7A Champion Hermantown (27-2-0) vs #5 seed 6A Champion Alexandria (20-6-2) Class A SF @ Xcel Energy Center

The Hawks will enter the 2nd Class A Semifinal of the day as the favorite to win. They will play an Alexandria squad though that comes into the game red hot not having lost since mid-January and will use the history of the 2018 game when Alex was last at state and knocked off the #1 Hawks to believe they can win. The Hawks will throw plenty of depth and speed led by the Plante brothers, Junior Zam & Sophomore Max , along with Junior Kade Kohanski on the top line along with the likes of Seniors Gavin Blomdahl & Dominic Thomas , Junior Wyatt Carlson & Sophomore Dallas Vieau and that's just the offense. We haven’t got to the Blue line of Junior Ty Hanson and Senior Beau Janzig and the Hawks are a deep team. The Cardinals will counter with two really good offensive lines of their own top line of Seniors Josiah Gronholz & Brycen Berg & Junior forward Tyler Kludt and they are supported by the 2nd line of Junior Joe Lamski and developing Sophomores Leo Kompelien & Gavin Olson . They will be able to score with Hermantown but can they defend the Hawks though Senior goaltender Teagan Pfeffer will need to be brilliant again as he was on Wednesday Night and anything is possible on Semi Final Friday.

Anything can happen!

This Alexandria team does a few similarities to the 2018 bunch that shocked the #1 seed 2-time defending State Champion Hawks. Which also began Coach Andrews Head job career and started the trend of disappointing team play near the end of the season.

2018 Alexandria had a Senior goaltender Jackson Boline who struggled during the year but was terrific in the Playoffs and was very confident saying after they beat TRF in Class A State 4/5 Game, "We were the 3 seed in out own section no one thinks we are going to win but the guys in our locker room" They were not afraid of Hermantown like many teams are and Boline was huge in 2nd period of that game where they got outshot 17-4 he stopped all 17 shots and Alex scored late in the period to go up 2-1 and then the roof caved in on Hermantown in the third.

Alexandria goalie Teagan Pfeffer on this 2022 team reminds me of Boline he was was very up and down during the season. However since the playoffs he has been terrific. He helped Alex win the Section Final with a few highlight reel saves when the Otter were controlling the play. Last night he was terrific MPLS was all over the Cards after it went 1-0 and he held strong until his teammates offensive snipers could score. Afterward love the quote from him of "We believe we can beat anyone when we are playing our game." They wont be afraid.

Could we see 2018 all over again??

Be fun but my main concern is the Alex D being able to break the puck out when the Hawks Forecheck gets rolling. They struggled with MPLS pressure last night at times and they will need to be more consistent on the breakout. However, Alex is very structured and doesn't give up much and they have 2 very good scoring lines,

It could happen and should be a fun Friday Class A Semifinal to watch!
