2022-23 Early Departures

Post by WestMetro » Mon Apr 11, 2022 2:53 pm

About time for Exiled One to dust off and update his files

NTDP early departs this fall

Skahan
Hensler
McMorrow
Plante

Anyone got any other solid early depart announcements?

I hear ya, Spar. But I set the bar lower. I would have settled for even one more year of Hensler. It's bittersweet when you know the best underclassmen on your team won't be around for 4 years. So delighted to have them, yet knowing it won't be long enough.

Hearing a shake up in Chaska HS - Both returning goalies moving on for their Sr. year.
Wishart - NAHL
Girard - headed out East for - U18 AAA

No goalies left in the HS program have Varsity experience, it will be interesting to see if there is a solid Soph, Jr, or Sr goalie out there wanting to make the move for a starting spot.

I recall the other goalie who played on their super bantam team then played with the Gamblers Jrs , and is now enrolled at Minnetonka HS, is that correct ?

I do not know if this is anything, but I saw that the Fetcho house in EP was just put up for sale. Trey graduated and Marcus was a sophomore playing for Edina last year. I do not know if they are moving out of the area (perhaps to Edina) or moving away, most likely meaning Marcus would be playing elsewhere.

Add McMorrow and both Plantes , along with Hensler and Skahan, to NTDP

Rinzel likely to go in first or second round of NHL draft and play juniors next year before Gophers

Any other updates coming out of HS practices or junior camps on the kids below ?

Correct - basically no goalies currently at Chaska HS. No fault of the coaching staff either.

If you are actually involved in this program, which I’m sure you are, you would know this is absolutely not true for at least one of the goalies. Doesn’t mean the staff did anything “wrong,” but one of the goalie families have been pretty vocal about the staff. Not exactly a secret in the EP/Chaska/Minnetonka area.

Oh boy, another vocal goalie family. :-({|= I can say this because I'm a member of a goalie family. No clue of the dynamics of this specific situation but vocal goalie families give us a bad name...here's some advice go where you're wanted, will play and have an opportunity to develop. No need to be vocal and make everyone miserable. Always remember...sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease and sometimes it gets removed!

I get it, with 25 games in MN High School hockey it's tough for a goalie riding the pine to develop behind a stud. Read the room and make your move.

It wasn't just the goalie parents that had issues with the coaching staff and a lot of raised eyebrows on them adding a player's father to the staff. With some top end players departing, it appears we will be 2nd fiddle to a very good Chan for the 1st time in years

I'm not involved in the program - I know enough hockey people in the area to know it wasn't a coaching issue. it's really more about 1 goalie Dad wanting every game for his goalie and has always been vocal with his hockey thoughts for years (just ask him he will tell you) and the other goalie not wanting to wait and see - So, they are doing what they believe is best for them. Can't really blame either they are both doing what they think is right for them. Those aren't coaching or program issues though.

Yea - From the rumblings I heard and from what i saw watching some games (I could be wrong) it was about play time mostly - A change in coaching philosophy's will upset some. The DS model run his top 6 or so - all the time. MC model was play mostly 4 lines and 6 D. I haven't heard much else for complaints. When I hear "coaching issues" i think of things like the staff doesn't treat the kids good, is not developing his players, not doing team building stuff, not willing to call Jr. programs to help kids move on, etc - I haven't heard any of those.....Being upset because of playtime being more spread out isn't a coaching issue - at least the way i think of it. Again I could be off and missing something else that I haven't heard.

The Spehar add is interesting for sure.

Agreed Chan will be good - They also have goalie issues. It will also be interesting to see how many of their strong Jr. class leave after this season to chase greener pastures. The way SB handles this season will probably determine a few of those choices.

Per his Dad's twitter account: Margarit D is leaving Holy Angels for the Philadelphia Rebels (old Johnstown team) for the NAHL.

Also per his Dad's twitter: "Margarit has played the most minutes of any HS player in Minnesota first 3 years of varsity"

"Slated to play top 4 D, PP and PK time" as well.

East to say, hard to prove. Must be auditioning for KFAN preposterous statement of the year.

I would put Anders Lee up against that claim.
