New team in the 218...
Well, now that it's official. The 218 and the east side of Duluth get a new private school program in 2023-2024 with the addition of Stella Maris, with Scott Pionk leading the team:

Things will now get VERY interesting up there.

Extremely interesting. I remember Duluth Marshall people complaining how their players were treated poorly when they were going through the Hermantown youth system. Wonder what treatment eventual Stella Maris kids will get while in the Herm youth ranks?

Well, Stella is officially off the ground. Not really per se, but Scott did field a team at the 2010 level up in Duluth this weekend. All Stella branded jerseys with a combo of current and possible future Stella kids. From what I can see/hear, when you have an old school guy like Scott on the bench who knows how to develop kids both on and off the ice, a lot of parents are willing to listen.
Will be interesting to see how things turn out, but at least for now, the name is getting out there.

Re: New team in the 218...
Anyone hear anything about what's going on with Stella? Scott does not seem to be listed anywhere and I really haven't heard anything much since the announcement back in 2023. I know it's not easy to get a program off the ground and finding kids/parents willing to take a leap of faith, but I know there were several roadblocks in front of him. Has this been scrapped?

When you head out to their webpage, it says more info coming soon.

Clicking on some of the other sports, it looks like they were taking registrations for the 23-24 season, but outside of that, nothing really there.
EDIT: Looks like some sports were active in the 23-24 season as they gave out team awards.

Right. But previously there used to be a video with Scott intro'ng the program--this even ran during the State tournament last year. Now he's not even listed on that site anymore so am curious if he just threw his hands up and moved on due to no progress. I thought they were supposed to start JV either last season or this with Varsity to follow a season later.BSUBeaver wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 12:25 pm When you head out to their webpage, it says more info coming soon.
