Minnehaha Academy Folding

Post by stateofhawkey » Thu Aug 11, 2022 10:23 am

Per Ed Aguirre, one of the Assistant Coaches of the Minnehaha Academy Program (via Facebook) -

"Sad news, the Redhawks Boy's HS Hockey Program has had to make a tough decision to dissolve due to extreme low numbers for this upcoming season. I was very fortunate and blessed to have been a part of the program for 5 year's working with some very awesome young men, coaches and families while being able to build some awesome ever lasting memories. I certainly wish the very best for those that will move on."

Always sad to hear about programs folding, but this one in particular hits closer to home because Ed was one of my coaches in high school, AND I played for Minnehaha for 2 seasons. Numbers had been dwindling for a while now, as indicated by the co-ops forming over the past couple of seasons. I'm curious to see where the players wind up.

Can someone explain how that works, then? What does dissolving really mean? Does the co-op no longer exist? What happens to North St. Paul?

It's not entirely true - MA is going with SPA as a co-op - but will play under the SPA name.

North St. Paul is going with Tartan as a co-op.

I assume NSP-Tartan is AA then?

Tartan was AA last year if I recall correctly.

So Minnehaha can have a top basketball program but can’t field a hockey team?
