AAA tryout suggestions

Post by barry_mcconnell » Mon Sep 08, 2014 9:03 am

Here are some suggestions for AAA teams having tryouts:

Tell people how many spots are available. Also tell them how many teams there might be. And tell them which team their kids is actually trying out for.

Tell people who will be coaching. Cool jerseys are nice but they don't make up for bad coaches.

Tell people how much the program costs.

Tell the kids when they can expect to hear back. Its just cruel to leave the kids hanging with no idea if anyone will ever contact them.

If you are going to have 40 kids on the ice, have the 17 kids that have already been offered spots sit on the boards for a bit. Why would you want all your active players skating around playing bad hockey? It makes it impossible to get a look at the other kids. I understand having a few active kids out there to help compare but not the whole team.

Clearly tell the kids before they get on the ice if you want them checking or not. It's really nice to see 3 kids skating around in search and destroy mode when the rest of the kids were told not to check.

Goalies! Don't have a scrimmage if you didn't plan on having any goalies show up.

If you are going to scrimmage make sure you have 2 colors of pull overs. Not 1, 3, 4, or 5 colors. I don't even know what to say about this one.
