PEE WEE A REGIONAL TOURNEYS..

Post by crw »

Somebody had to start one..

All should be done today, what are your thoughts..

Toughest region, weakest region, what teams will come,.

What about some of the top teams that aren't advancing to regions?

I don't know who is suppose to report for District 8 from the "A" Pee Wee playoffs in Hastings but they did not do a very good job everything was a day to two days late. HighSchoolHockeyForums.com was faster.

I don't know the scores but here is how it ended up.

#1 Seed Farmington
#2 Seed Rosemount
#3 Seed Lakeville North (Beat Lakeville South 3 to 1 today)

Lakeville South beat Mankato 9 to 3 and will be the #4 seed from district.

IMHO West Region will be the toughest. Based on myhockeyrankings, below are the rankings of the various teams in each of the regionals. I admit I am confused about the South side but I think you get the idea. Hands down West is toughest.

PWA East
WBL #31 vs Duluth East #36
Elk River #8 vs Tartan #40
Hermantown #21 vs Anoka #23
Blaine #18 vs Mahtomedi #41
**2 teams in top 20

PWA North
Grand Rapids #13 vs Fergus Falls #63
Bemidji #12 vs Virginia #78
Moorhead #10 vs EGF #30
Hibbing #54 vs TRF #32
**3 teams in top 20

PWA South
Farmington #2 vs Lakeville South #20
Rochester Red #37 vs Lakeville North #26
Luverne #67 vs Owatonna #64
Northfield #75 vs Rosemount #3
**3 teams in top 20

PWA West
St. Cloud #17 vs OMG #15
Edina #1 vs Sartell #70
Wayzata #4 vs EP #7
Burnsville #6 vs STMA #19
**7 teams in top 20

This is Peewee hockey and anything can happen...

HHM,

I also believe Lakeville South is taking D4 #2 seed, which means they play Farmington first round. D9 has a 3rd seed, but I don't know who got it.

Like I said, South confuses me. The gist of it is that West is the toughest. After that, anyone have an opinion?

East looks like it is weak. Should be 2 d10 teams advancing.

Agreed. D10 teams would seem to be the favorites since those teams likely played a tougher schedule over the course of the year and seem more tournament tested. D11 is a bit down overall, but this is the year of upsets so nothing is certain. Just look at D2. The top two teams faltered in district play. However, as mentioned in another thread, District 2's overall level of play seems to be on the decline so even the top teams may not have had the depth to get through a regional tournament.

You could make a great tournament by taking the 5 teams that are in the top 20 that DIDN'T make the Regions.

#5 Prior Lake Savage
#9 Woodbury
#11 Minnetonka
#14 Roseville
#16 Centennial

and I would argue that the Mpls Storm is right up there. Congrats to all the teams that made it!

There's no question the toughest region to come out if is the west. In the south Farmington and rosemount should have a clear path but there are a couple of sleepers in there. Agreed that at peewee hockey there are no guarantees.

Predictions - here are my thoughts of watching this years version of Peewee A hockey.

East Region
WBL and Duluth East have been up and down all year and this is a tough game to predict but will go with Duluth East since they have won 2 out of the 3 meetings this year.Elk River cruises through the top of the bracket after beating Duluth East in the semifinal.

Hermantown seemed to struggle against the teams from the cities evidenced by their recent trip down to the suburbs with 4-2 and 4-1 losses to Armstrong and Osseo/Maple Grove respectively. Anoka enters regions with the mindset that they can win every game they play and has enough to beat Hermantown in the opener. Blaine is not challenged by Mahtomedi with sets up a Blaine vs. Anoka semifinal. I am taking Anoka to knock Blaine into the Consolation bracket as it is always hard to beat a team 3 times in a row.

Elk River wins championship and Anoka runs out of gas. Blaine comes through the back door to take the second seed.

North Region
GR handily over FF. Bemidji crushes Virginia. GR vs. Bemidji semifinal is a physical game but Bemidji takes it due to they are more prepared coming into regions after playing a stronger schedule at the end of the year.

Moorhead edges out EGF in a close opening round game with TRF is not challenged by Hibbing. Both teams have beat each other once with both games going into OT. I am taking Moorhead to find a way to get it done and advance to the championship.

Bemidji and Moorhead tied earlier in the year and the second game ended up with a lopsided 6-2 win for Bemidji. Moorhead comes ready to play and takes the title while an angry and focused Bemidji team takes the second seed after beating GR for the second time in the regional tournament.

South Region
Farmington and Rosemount scream through bracket play to the championship. Farmington repeats their district play victory over Rosemount and takes championship. Lake South gives Rosemount everything they can handle but just not enough as Rosemount advances as second seed.

South is the weakest region.

West Region
St. Cloud vs. OMG is too close to call. OMG beat St. Cloud earlier in the year but St. Cloud has home ice advantage. OMG is coming into tournament behind a 3 - 0 and 4 - 0 shutout victories against Armstrong and Mpls so they appear to have found a stubborn streak. In the end the winner is going to have to play a flawless game against Edina which is my pick to advance to championship.

Wayzata and EP is a good game but Wayzata has too much scoring power and advances to semifinal. Burnsville and STMA is a big challenge for Burnsville but they get by with a one goal win over a very determined STMA squad. Wayzata beats Burnsville in semifinal as Wayzata has scored 70+ more goals than Burnsville this season and both teams have given up approximately the same number of goals against.

Edina wins championship over Wayzata. Wayzata takes second seed against any team you want to pick (except for Sartell) but you could see Burnsville, EP, OMG, St. Cloud or STMA take their spot if any of those teams want it more than Wayzata.

West is the toughest region.

That is how I see it but if you are looking for "sleepers" here are my picks for teams that could end up surprising on Sunday:

East - Hermantown

North - EGF

South - Lakeville South

West - Excluding Sartell, every team in this pool could take the 2nd seed.
