Wow...8 to 1 LVS over OMG! Did OMG get down early and pull their studs to save them for the play in game? I have seen a little of that going on, makes sense when the goal is to get to state not die on your own sword. Makes some of the scores more lopsided if someone gets ahead early in the championship games.
Sets up 3 great play in games:
OMG and Stillwater have 2 ties this year in 2 games.
Conference foes: Edina vs EP and Centennial vs ER know each other well!
At least 3 top 10's go home here! Several of these teams have been pretty hot at the end of the year.
I guess Hermantown has proven they belong in the top 10 now! Nice job to take down both ER and Centennial.

No. OMG played studs for 2 periods. LVS played very strong score was 7-1 after 2.Trout wrote:Wow...8 to 1 LVS over OMG! Did OMG get down early and pull their studs to save them for the play in game? That is PWA. PWB scores seem to be even more lopsided. Interestingly to see that none of D6 teams held off their fires after big scores.Irish wrote:Very sad to see the goal difference between the two districts.Mnhockeys wrote:D9 vs. D6 teams in South region playoff a combining score of 5 vs. 46 .... c'mon, man! 0 vs. 38 without the 5 goals from RR.

Contrast what is happening in D9 with what is happening in D5. St. Cloud actually joined D5 and dominated the league last year. This year St. Cloud had to fight to get to the West Regional getting the #3 seed.
Their presence in the league last year elevated the play of the D5.
It shows this year. Two D5 teams, STMA #1 and MAML #2, won the West Regional tourney beating Roseau and Moorhead Black among others. STMA and MAML will play in the state tourney in two weeks for the first time.
Rochester chose to keep their top team out of D9 regular season in a selfish move to play more games against better competition. The fact that they are denying the rest of D9 better competition to allow their own associations to improve hurts hockey in all of Southern Minnesota.
So this year, STMA and MAML are going to the State tourney in Alexandria. None of the D9 teams, including Rochester’s best, are going to state.
Rochester is the driving behind dividing peewee A hockey into AA and A next year. Such foolishness because this split has the potential to drive numbers in youth hockey down across the state and by the time the experiment is over, Minnesota hockey may never recover. To everybody out there, it is kids playing hockey. The ego’s of coaches and parents does not count. Once the peewee A season is over, the kids grow, change and go in all sorts of directions.
The ego’s of coaches and parents move on to bantam and high school. But what they leave behind for the squirt and mite kids, they never think about. In this case and in these economic times, they are leaving garbage. But they don’t care.

I think the peewee A results last year and this year have more to do with the age group of the particular teams than the fact that St. Cloud joined d5 and made everyone better. It's not that simple, thats is a reach.frederick61 wrote:Contrast what is happening in D9 with what is happening in D5. St. Cloud actually joined D5 and dominated the league last year. Great to see someone say this. Then what does a Rochester Red team gain by wanting to play better competition since the strength of their team is in the age group that year?

Its not the same. I can see one team getting better because they play every game against better competition but its a stretch to say every team ( MAML, Buffalo etc. ) got better because they play St. Cloud 2 times a year.frederick61 wrote:“I think the peewee A results last year and this year have more to do with the age group of the particular teams than the fact that St. Cloud joined d5 and made everyone better. Fred: You see plenty of games to know that Rochester Red is the only A level team in District 9 that can compete at an A level across the State. The need to create AA and A levels is prompted by associations like those in D9 not entering their teams at the B1 level. The same can be said that associations with great depth could enter 2 A level teams when the ability level is there.

Its not the same. I can see one team getting better because they play every game against better competition but its a stretch to say every team ( MAML, Buffalo etc. ) got better because they play St. Cloud 2 times a year.
So the justification is that one team playing every game against tougher competition will improve the current group of kids for that year. The nine teams playing “poorer competition" does not improve the nine teams since they will need to play more than 2 games a year against tougher competition. Then after Rochester Red were beaten badly by Prior Lake 7-3 and 8-0, Centennial 9-5, Stillwater 9-3, and OMG 9-2 in their first 10 games this year; Prior Lake, Centennial, Stillwater, and OMG should have dropped the Red from their schedule since playing a weaker team would impede their current kids development?
It is not logical. The whole thought process is driven by winning, not by development.
