THE TRUTH ABOUT MN MADE
I have browsed through all the posts about the chippy playing etc. at mm in the post that is now locked. I just wanted to let you know that I never frequent this forum and rarely ever read anything on it I created a username just to post this so I would say I am completely oblivious to most every other topic on here. I can only say that people can say what they want, and do what they want. Hockey is a sport that has a lot of emotion from parents etc. I feel that it usually is due to the financial and time pressure it causes some families . I do believe that as someone who has a lot of experience at the made I can tell you emphatically that so much posted about it is truly exasperated b.s. Look you do not have to like it , you don't have to play there , but frankly mn made has a great model that whether you like it or not it produces quality hockey players from the kids that have the heart . it is not for everyone , you have to really like hockey... Other than a few incidences that get exaggerated on this forum most of the squirt choice games have been under control. there are a few kids that seem to cause problems , but hey the refs need to do there job and honestly if my own kid did what some of these kids do I would go over and yank him off the bench myself and tell him he is done for the day.. Look at the parents to take responsibility for there kids , let's not make hockey like the rest of the world and put the blame on everyone else for what we do not like. Parents teach your kids to respect the game. Explain to them that they are not in the nhl yet and there is no place for the goon behavior at this age and have a consequence for your Wayne Gretzky prodigy when he does not respect the game we are all paying through the nose to teach them. From reading all of the minnesota made comments I can only say that 90% of them are from people that bash them maybe because they do not play there , It is a good fit for some and not for others but I can assure you it comes with no more problems than any other association. I just believe that ice time and skill development is important and for the most part I would choose made over any association mite program for sure and 80% of the squirt programs in the state because most of the die hard made kids seem to make there fair share of very high level teams that's all I am gonna say . Let the Bashing begin...

Mn made like anything isn't exacting what they advertise, when we originally signed up I thought we would be getting away from the parent coaches when in fact all the coaches are parents, we have been lucky our head coaches have been outstanding, if my son would have been on another team I would be concerned, I have seen coaches lose their minds up there but I would assume its equal to association hockey.
A lot people think mn made skates a lot when in fact they skated less then our association. Mn made counts every hour of training dryland, outdoor ice even if its cancelled, the season is about 3-4 weeks longer so everything is spread out at mn made.
We have met a lot good people that will be fun to have beers with when our kids square off at some out of town tournament in the future. I have also met some complete dbags, who really believe their kids are going to play in nhl and will tell you their kids will, they also allow their kids to act like complete dbags because of this belief.
Lastly the very best things about made are, knowing the schedule for the season day one and going to play at the same location everytime no guessing on how long it will take, its easy for the grand parents to show up, (home rink is easy but describing where wakota is a pain) I don't care about the team just my son and maybe the most important I can miss when ever I want and it has no impact on playing time

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT MN MADE
I agree. What's the big deal about a measly fight in the post-game handshake line? Only twice in a month? Parents storming onto the ice screaming and yelling. If you're gonna sign up for Squirt Hockey you should expect stuff like this.funhockey wrote:I have browsed through all the posts about the chippy playing etc. at mm in the post that is now locked. We have had nothing but great seasons with MN Made. The development that the players receive at the Mite level is far better than what they would receive in association hockey. The fact that our sons, who at 6 years old, fully understood what offsides, icing, and other important rules to the game were is amazing. The full-ice drills with the introduction of pucks conditions these players and teaches them how to stick handling properly. From our past experiences with association mites, they broke up into small groups to do drills in an incredibly small space, played cross-ice games, and were never able to learn the way the game is actually played until they were sent to Squirts. The only way association players can learn these skills is to play summer hockey in AAA leagues. A person doesn't have to agree with everything MN Made says/does, but there is definitely a gap between the players during the most important time for teaching proper development. In my opinion, MN Made's Choice program is absolutely worth the money.

Really? You spent all that money and it was a success because your kids knew what offsides was? My son learned offsides, icing, breakouts, forechecks, backchecking, etc. from watching the Gophers and Wild and playing NHL Slapshot on his Wii when he was 5. He didn't have to waste ice-time on that stuff. When he was on the ice, he worked on skill development. Edges, power turns, forward to backward transitions, crossovers, stickhandling, making quick decisions in tight spaces, playing in traffic, etc. Parents enjoy watching their kids play full ice more than half-ice, especially if the kids are good. I get that. But don't confuse that with, "proper development." It's not the 80's anymore.HockeyFam wrote:We have had nothing but great seasons with MN Made. It took my 8-year-old daughter precisely 5 minutes to understand icing (if the puck crosses the center line, the opposing blue line, and the end line) and offsides (the puck must enter the zone before any of your teammates unless it's touch-up).HockeyFam wrote:We have had nothing but great seasons with MN Made. I think MN Made's great, but those rules can be taught by anybody with a computer and the ability to Google.
I have to agree that it's not the 80s. I guess my point was... If parents want their kids to know the game of hockey, they have to go outside of their associations (even if it is Google).Froggy Richards wrote:Really? I'm just sharing that we have had a great time with MN Made. And that sometimes the bashing does get out of hand.
I am glad that you had a good experience with MM, but to state that kids can't learn or do all those things in Association is false. My son was learning breakouts, off-sides, icing, etc. and playing full ice games his last 3 years of mites (as well as the ADM stuff).HockeyFam wrote:We have had nothing but great seasons with MN Made.
